The early 911 rear end seems just right to me, it's pretty yet purposeful, whereas I'd say the 991's has grown too much, with a much higher 'line' to it...
I think an early Targa is certainly a thing of beauty, even in Kermit green...

Yes, technically they are beautiful I would say. (I'm a designer by training and practice). I have only had a chance to work with one car brand (can't say the name, but lets say one of the best British sport car brands!) at my ex-firm for a collaborative project. If you ask any industrial or vehicle designer, porsche designs(911 mainly) are absolutely beautiful in the sense of geometry, proportions and manufacturing possibilities. I do not really think latest models are absolute classics but they are not ugly. (Cayenne, panerama and etc..)
911, boxster and cayman especially are unique designs in my opinion. Each of them have very specific proportions. The first generation Cayman's rear part "The mountain and valley" (one piece body side-double curved surface) is especially a b
h to manufacture with that form in one single stainless steel, it's amazing how they have even managed to mass-produce that model in the early 2006's.
Some 911 are better than other, I think due to its size (the recent models getting larger and larger) but in general, I think 911 with its proportions,a classic.

The comedy wheels and rear arches are just too big. It's trying to be an ST, but has ended up looking like a bullfrog.
One of the prettiest I've seen was Diddy Hamilons black S.
As for anything post 73....the 911 went the same way as Bardot.
When you look at some of the 911 models (993 in this image), most of the body-work seriously designed/sculpted and calculated according to what is underneath. Very few car brands have managed to do this, I think it's one of the reasons why they are still super popular. (In addition to other benefits like handling, driving and etc...)

Form following function, which goes to the heart of Porsche.With regard to the Singer 911, I get why some feel it's almost a 'wide arched' pastiche but having watched all the youtube clips this week and perused some fine images it's winning me over, for me, from the rear it is a gem, the transition from body to wheel arch is spot on...
The original plan was to use 15'' Fuchs which might have looked more appropriate but I like the ones they plumped for in the end.

When I was looking for mine, as well as wanting a cabrio, I specifically had to have one with a factory fit aerokit. To me, although I like the general look of 911's, I think that the tail looks a little strange and unfinished without some kind of aero addenda.
Cabrio might not be to everyone's tastes, but 99% of my most spirited and fun drives were in the middle of the night during the summer, with the top down, out in the deepest countryside A roads. Could smell all the lovely night-time country smells, and appreciate the Sports exhaust in all it's glory
Took me six months of looking to find this one, I think it is a pretty car, as did a lot of other people:

This is my opinion so if it upsets some...too bad.
To my eyes the mid 70's to early 90's 911's are stunningly beautiful things, never really liked the looks of the 924 and 928 plus the 968 was just plain hideous as is the 996, the 997 looks better as it's much better proportioned.
When I first saw pictures of the Cayman I loved its shape and curves it kind of reminded me of the 80's 911's I liked so much, the two lines that run from the roof down the tailgate look amazing as does the classic rounded tops on the front wings features sadly missing from the 981, the GTS is the looker of the range with its bespoke bumpers and the GT4 would look sensational if it had centrelock wheels.
As for the newest cars...the 991 has some nice lines even though it is huge, the Turbo S is really lovely as is the GT3 and RS the groove down the bonnet and roof looks stunning on these cars, the Cayene and Panamera are function over form unfortunately not that pretty to look at. As for the new Boxster and Cayman they are not Porsches finest design they are too fussy they have lost the flowing curves that a Porsche should have...too many edges for my liking.

Yep everybody's different for me it is any 2 wheel drive 911, 4 wheel drive, big flared arches...leave that to the Italians, nicely engineered body that covers all the essential mechanics that's what a Porsche should be, designed from function over form.
