Just fitted my new headlight motor and boy is noisy when going up. I noticed there is a locking nut with a crew head on the top of the motor, was wondering if I slackened off the screw a couple of turns whether it would reduce any tension? The other side of course is perfect on the up and down

The screw and locknut is there to set the motor armature endfloat. You should find that there's a nylon thrust pad behind the screw that bears on the end of the spindle. Usual technique is to slacken locknut, nip the screw up until it just binds on the spindle, back off a midgies (say a quarter turn) then hold the screw while tightening the locknut.
It's unlikely to be this that's causing the noise; more likely that the output shaft is binding in its bushes or that the drive gear is already stripped.
Try disconnecting the motor to pod link and operate the motor; if it quietens it could also be something to do with the pod pivot bolts or the link rod itself.

Agree with all of that yes I had a noisy one back from a so called expert refurb company and it was the brushes on the armature that had not been put back together correctly and partially seating. Fixed in half an hour

Will try disconnecting the linkage first and see the if the motor is ok otherwise it's going straight back!
