I'd genuinely like some insight, and I expect many others would too, on what it takes to get access to buy one of the 'top three' or their like.

Frustratingly before this fuss all started, I twice had the opportunity to buy a 991 GT3 (as a virgin Porsche buyer!) but circumstances didn't allow.

So, now my sense is that unless I've already bought about 12 cars from the dealer or have some promotional value to Porsche or the dealer, its unlikely I'd get a car, is that right or am I being too negative?

So, exactly what is happening nowadays, one asks and is listed, followed by a phone call or email indicating you may spec a car? What would separate customers with similar circumstances? Likely high spec make a difference? Wine and dine your dealer mate? Back hander in the post?

I'm just not into the game of paying overs of 50%.

cheers

Be a good customer with your OPC, go local, take your cars to be serviced there and you are in for a good chance.

What OPC wants to sell a car and never see it again ?

Far harder buying the new Rolex Daytona IMO.

Maybe it's your PH username that's stopping you as these cars need to be driven smile

I have a good relationship with my local dealer spanning many years. I've bought many new and used cars from them and always have my service/warranty work carried out by them.

Any Porsche I'm looking to sell I give them first refusal on.

In short they need to see you as a good financial opportunity into the future or you need to be connected.

To give you an idea of where perhaps things are going, someone i know is getting a 911R with limited Porsche purchase history because he showed them he had a fairl decent presence on social media, planned to drive it relentlessly and share it with the world. Supposedly the OPC loved it...well, they must have, he's getting one!

I understand this is very much the deal with the new Ford GT. You HAVE to take it to events etc.; it's all part of the 'contract'.

looks like I should buy myself a gopro, make some crappy videos and market the hell out of myself on pistonheads et al to jump ahead of the people who have bought a new Cayenne, 911 etc every few years for the last decade - excellent, this might be my only shot at these types of cars in the primary market

Luckily I have mountains in front of my house, so should be some enjoyable driving. What is the best/fastest drone available for shooting videos nowadays?

MDL111 youtube channel (and all social media stuff - somebody younger will need to run that for me) coming your way soon

Just wait for the next recession and you will get inviteds no doubt. The market is full of punters and people who buy these things on finance. Once that market collapses supply will outdo demand. I remember the days of the 918 launch where we were flown to Spain and taken on track etc to be won over to put our name down for one. It i not long ago and these times will be back. So patience and cash is key.

High end cars or a new property is best bought when a recession is on!
I always tell our son when times are good pay off debt and save and when times bad that's the best time to spend or move up the ladder!

A quick look in the classified suggests Garage queen is a perfect customer as they seem to have hardly any miles.

Going back to the OP and thread topic - my success with my local OPC is down to buying multiple cars over the last few years including paying overs for a 991GT3 last year, which thankfully landed me an RS, which I've had just over a week. Last Friday I was having fun at the Ring smile
