Porsche hate on the roads

I must not react to the coffee bean!

So this morning on the A34, overtaking the traffic in the outside lane, purple jaguar xf just pulls out in front of me, no signals causing an abrupt slowdown. As I pass he does the coffee bean handshake at me, then he starts ranting at me.
So I pull of the next junction and on cue he follows, he opens his window and carries on shouting, f'ing, etc, etc.
What is it about Porsches that upset people so much?

Having a bit of a fleet now, it's fascinating to see how people react depending on what car and the percieved status/heirachy associated with them.
In the Smart, people will pull in front of me with zero respect. Sometimes iv'e had to jump on the brakes and yet no thank you, or wave of the hand to apologise. On the flipside, you can be quite cheeky ducking and diving in traffic with no one batting bats an eyelid.
As you say, in a Porsche, things are different! If i am waiting to overtake someone whilst maintaining a similar gap as i would do in the Smart, i will regularly get the gesticulation you have described. In fact, in any other car i am fine, but some have a real aversion to the Porsche.
My theory is if they feel hustled aside, it is a threat upon their manhood so therefore aggression is a natural response. I say manhood, as i don't have the same issue with female drivers.
The most fun thing is jumping from the adversion of the Smart to my Audi RS6 (all black, tinted windows). No one pulls in front of me, no one attempts to overtake and i've never had any grief. There is an upside to looking like a drug dealer!
The question now is whether an all blacked out 911 would have the same affect!

I was driving in Bradford some years ago one evening, I overtook an M3 on a dueled section, not violently, just overtook.
Driver and passenger went bananas, caught up with me at next lights, wound down windows and started throwing coins at my car, plus shouting, spitting
As the lights went green, I reversed and turned and drove away
They are the problem

called "wker" a few times in chiswick, while testing a super basic 981 a few years ago
Also once a mad woman throw an orange at me around Killburn, I come to conclusion that west and north west london might include some interesting personalities
I think our country/city still have a strange attitude against non-british cars. My colleague has a 06 vantage, usually people kindly nods and etc. Also another friend's classic triumph spitfire gets loads of positive attention in traffic whenever we take it for a ride in central locations, no issue. 911 or similar european sports cars have massive hate especially in traffic imho, whatever your behaviour is

Am based in south London and I don't think I've had any negative behaviour/driving towards the car. Black with black wheels, I've always been expecting some. I've been through various parts of London in it and routinely around surrey/sussex (plenty of overtaking), and probably 10k miles in total around the country and across the channel.
I've owned my 911 for nearly 4 years, in that time I've only had a handful of abusive gestures or brake tests etc. I mess with other drivers heads as I drive really politely, let folk in and out of junctions, wave to say thank you and indicate correctly for every manoeuvre. That said, I only drive like a tt in it when there is no one around, the rest of the time do my best to blend in. The only issue I really have is the snot hatch and Audi diesel brigade trying to race me everywhere. Unfortunately, despite being over 50, I'm not mature enough to wave them all past when they come hurtling up behind me to encourage some competition. I'm getting better, but need to improve. Regardless of what they've done to enhance their performance, even BMW M cars are restricted to 155mph, I'm not.
I've had a couple of incidents whilst driving my turbo s around Horsham, last week a woman in an newish Tiguan was up my backside in a 30 limit which I was adhering to, she then tried to overtake me on a large roundabout only to have a fit when she couldn't get past me to pull off, she ended up having to round again but I got a hurl of abuse and was just minding my own buisness. Other time I was trying to pull into a busy dual carriageway and a lorry decided I wasn't getting in even though I had nowhere to go and it was obvious I had no other options, he almost ran me off the road!!!
Some people have serious issues, and take it out on other people on the road....i have no idea why but Porsche owner seems like a good target!

I think that most people who give you the coffee beans are purely jealous that you have a car that they dream of. Think yourself lucky that you don't have a Ferrari - they get much more abuse.
If you want a nice car and no abuse then drive an Aston- everybody lets you out at junctions etc but it's not as much fun as a Porsche......
Just ignore the haters.

Sold my 2006 Saleen 281 (Mustang) to a guy that just sold his Cat C 997 . He said he hated the 911 saying the Mustang (with boat anchor engine) was much faster and handled better (nothing to do with the fact his chassis was beyond jigging or anything and probably had a host of issues).
He was expecting a better reception with the Mustang as he got spat on with the Porsche and abused generally every time he went out in it. This leads me to two conclusions, the first being it wasn't the car, it was more than likely the driver and the second being his area of residence. I think a lot of car owners spend their time looking for attention rather than driving their fking cars.
What he didn't know was I was selling the Mustang to buy a 911. I had a black 997.2 C4S with black wheels and did my fair share of overtaking. Car was well received and I was let out at junctions as much as anyone else.
It's never the cars fault there's a tool behind the wheel.

My red GT4 had a very positive reaction and no jealously or bad feeling at all which i was very surprised at. Even in the Cayenne I dont get any negativity and its an all black set up like the RS6 above.
Have had the odd coffee bean gesture but thats while overtaking some gericatric on a fast A road through the middle of Wales where you literally have to squeeze into a minute gap in the 'train' because they're driving so close to the car in front!
I generally find that blowing kisses in the mirror makes the coffee bean gesture more vigorous in nature and I would imagine the blood pressure increase! Thank god for statins!

If you read the 'Knob' thread you will see that most of the reactions to Porsches are happening to those who drive a Focus or an Astra.I must not react to the coffee bean!

So, you are not alone.
Test driving a 987 in 2014 an M3 driver courteously moved out of my way.
Many drivers in petrol stations have said they like my 981 Cayman.
I have experienced nothing much negative about driving it in 11 months of ownership.
I've noticed other Porsche drivers don't wave back when I acknowledge them?
Are some of US the problem?
