Somewhat given up getting angry at lane hoggers. I've learned to appreciate that many are simply nervous drivers; they're not out there to be annoying deliberately. They may be doing wrong, but i'm not doing much help flashing or getting irate at them. The core issue is that the driving test (and therefore lessions) needs to incorporate motorway driving.

The other contigent is immigrants drivers, of which there are many in London. They just don't 'get' lane discipline, so again, there's really no point.

Nowadays, i don't get fussed, i just undercut as if they weren't there.

I have been developing a theory that the colour of your car has an influence on how others react to you.
If I am driving our Ocean blue Boxster it often feels like it has some kind of invisibility cloak on but in the Speed yellow Boxster other cars make a huge effort to get out of the way.
Not sure what the reasoning would be behind this phenomenon would be but it is definitely a real thing.

It's funny, I've never noticed car hate of any kind. Some dick head drivers but most of us can be accused of that sometime.

What is even funnier is why direct it at a Porsche. Most look pretty ordinary cars, even the ones that aren't so not sure why anyone would take issue.

Porsches have rarely been about looking OTT so not sure why they would provoke positive or negative reactions.

never really had any nasty incidents on the road with fellow drivers (of all types of cars)
quite the opposite in the 991 GT3 I have now

get loads of thumbs up & waves !

also had a fair few people just wind their window down just to appreciate the noise it appears - even on motorways smile

Only real negative I've had was parking up my 986S in a car park in Leeds about 10-11 years ago.
came back to it later to discover what looked like a hammer dent in the soft top cover panel... never parked their again !

Hard to believe, but the car that generated the most positive vibes was my black Panamera Turbo - I lost count of the number of people that approached me to chat about it - and not just petrolheads.

Lane discipline on motorways...don't get me started on that one (having done 600 miles on the bloody things in the past 48 hours )

Well, look at it this way.

Well signed I presume? Half a mile,(that's a lot of cars), patiently waiting, coming to the end of a DC, then you, as admitted, charge up the outside.....

At the heart of it lies the British attitude to queueing. Be patient, wait your turn...etc. Just like the Post Office or Tescos.
Or perhaps just follow the Highway Code and merge in turn (thereby avoiding doubling the length of any queue...)
Yes, A358 heading towards Taunton down the hill from Thornfalcon Garage

Having driven and been driven all over the world, I can confirm that other countries have 'different' standards to ours. Anything can happen.

Never really had any problems with my Porsche most don't give it a second glance, however a few years back I bought one of the then new Scirocco's Jesus Christ it was like a moving advert for the boy racer brigade to prove their tatty wee Corsa's were the fastest things on the planet.

About the only adverse reaction I've had, and I'm pretty sure it was a reaction to the car, was where some silly bh decided she would drive straight across the front of my car approaching a roundabout. The usual deal where people decide they will simply point at where they want to go and drive in a straight line. Somewhat annoyed I lent on the horn. About 30 seconds later I passed her on a stretch of dual Carriageway and she gives me the 'small cock' gesture. Yep I'm totally driving the car because I have a small penis to compensate for. Not sure what she was compensating for in her Audi Q7.

I changed from a Lapis Blue 986S to BRIGHT GUARD'S RED 986S.

The difference was immediate and highly noticeable.

You get noticed a lot more. Much of the attention good. People smiling and enjoying the sight of the car. Some attention bad.

Unlike our TVR which, as it has become older, the nitwits who only see the money have stopped noticing it.

Not so for the Porsche. Despite it being worth buttons, now.

I wonder if it is general driving attitude of the driver as much as the car he is in that affects people and how you are perceived?
You do see the odd Pork being driven by someone who obviously thinks they are above everyone around them. Road position, closeness to the car in front, I don't know exactly, but you sort of get an general feel somehow.
Mind you, had a M4 this week being driven by a total bell end on the A406 round by Harpinden Monday morning who cut across lanes endlessly to get four car lengths in front of me to then pull up at a car wash and wander round?

How about my example.
I do around 20,000 miles a year in my trusty Peugeot Partner Van.
90BHP chipped to 115BHP, so keeps up fine with most traffic.
No one bats an eyelid, but if I have any stupid behavior such as people nosing into a space that isn't there, pulling out in front of me at roundabouts, or general a'holes, I behave as if I didn't see them and carry on regardless. I could not care a less if I stuffed into someones door because they pulled out in front of me.
And this attitude has meant 60,000 miles, not so much as a scratch on it!
Don't get me wrong, if I could avoid an accident I will. But don't let them think that!!

Flip side, four weeks ago on a car that has done 300 miles after a full rebuild after being off the road for years, painted orange and stickers up in full Jaegermeister garb, and I have a geriatric pull into the side of it from a side junction!
Was it because he didn't see it, or because I was driving carefully and was in a Porsche???

Having a bit of a fleet now, it's fascinating to see how people react depending on what car and the percieved status/heirachy associated with them.
I think this is it.
It's the perceived status I reckon - even though my 996 isn't worth a great deal of money, and certainly less than a brand new Mondeo, there is a bit of resentment as a result.

But its compensated for by the nice comments at petrol station and open-mouthed stares/thumbs up from youngsters.

How do you manage that?

Or have you done your 996 up to look like this

Hav'nt had delivery of my 718 yet, but in the past if the car behind toots me & waves his/her hands, I immediately stop the car get out, look @ the back of my car then nod to them with my arms open. Basically saying what's the problem with my car !
I get great sense of achievement as They have had their journey delayed !

I have to say every time I see one of these threads I just end up totally confused, can't believe what I am reading.

I have owned my 997.2 Turbo S for 18 months. My car has full aero kit, yellow seat belts, PCCB, rs spyder alloys, clear rear tail lights and quite a distinctive and eye catching number plate- so definitely not the most discreet Porsche of all timesmile

With all that in mind, I have in 18 months and around 6000 miles never had a single abusive comment, hand gesture, or bad reaction. Not one, on the contrary I have had people come up to me to compliment me on the car and ask about it, kids point and stare in excitement, some taking pics, etc etc, never a bad reaction.

Drive courteously enough most of the time (or try to) but have also had more than my fair share of spirited B Roads fun over the last year and half too and been on some great roads which I have enjoyed a lot.

I've had no issues since we got our '04 Boxster in August - until today.

Was approaching a roundabout - one with three exits in total and basically just a large painted circle on the road - could see a blue Dacia coming along the road to my right but not on the roundabout and certainly clear for me to drive on as i'd be on the roundabout before he got there with no need for him to brake, etc. Was only doing 20mph ish and minding my own business.

Next thing i see is the Dacia accelerating (bless) and driving AT me as i was going round the roundabout. He made a whole big point then of having to brake hard - even though he was actually coming across the painted white roundabout AT ME instead of driving round behind me.

So then hes all shouting etc.

How sad must your life be to get yourself outraged at some old Boxster worth a few grand minding its own business?

Some people just see a nice car and think a nob must be driving it when in reality they are the nob.

Exactly lots of numpties on the road, around here most people seem to not like stopping at roundabouts. I have had some close shaves even though it's my right of way.
