I would buy a Cayman if i didn't need the rear seats of a 911.

Eh?
That applies to me and is true.

Turns out I marginally prefer the 911 more generally, but a Cayman was not an option because I need back seats.

Tiptronics ARE crap.
4WD IS pointless.
Other two are debatable.

Even on a dark winter's night on a wet British B road, with 500+ bhp on tap?

Sports seats have no place in any GT car, even the GT cars owned by people who want sports seats.

In UK at least it rains quite a bit, more than 0.01 of the time so having 4WD does make a difference. This is why I didn't buy a 991 GT3 and have now bought 991 Turbo S. Regarding tips my old tuned 997 Turbo was tiptronic and did a 100mph in 6.5seconds seamlessly for 4 years- but yes PDK is a huge improvement.

Tends to fit with my experience. I also happen to think any British person who does not possess a waterproof coat is, without exception, in some way mentally deficient. Or housebound.

Yes, it's pointless even in that situation.

Have you been reading Honest John?!

Funny that they can be 'unloved' & one of the biggest selling models isn't it!

Audi/VW group sales figures for 4wd cars and sports cars would tend to disprove that 4wd is pointless. I wouldn't have a dd in the UK without 4wd. Its saved me from ending up in a hedge backwards on a few occasions. When it does snow or in terrible weather like we had this weekend a 911 turbo feels more secure than a Range Rover, Discovery, G63, GL63 and LandCruiser in my experience and I always pick up the keys to the turbo if its horrible outside.

I've driven 320bhp RWD and 502bhp 4WD and I know exactly which one I would choose, every time, if the weather was grotty and the road quality patchy (i.e. anywhere in the UK).

Any of them on winters I would be happy with.

I bet that a 500hp RWD car can be driven like a 74hp car with enough throttle sensitivity.

TBF, at 500bhp, you can't just pin it indiscriminately in the dry, let alone the wet IME. Sure it's easier, there's more grip, more progression too perhaps, but it's by no means idiot proof. Not this idiot anyway.

So true. The mediocrity like ... well, they like the mediocre.

The best things that you can buy in life generally tend toward the niche, the bespoke and lie just under the radar, well out of the gaze of all the wallys.

Yeah, that popularity business. The Beatles really were rubbish when you think about it. And Led Zep, Abba, the Mini, iPhones, jeans.....
