Weekend road car.... 997.1 GT3 or 964 C2?

looks wise it's standard 964 with d90s, flag mirrors, I had to do a lot bodywork wise, new wings, a door, kidney bowls,rear bumper stays , so had pretty much a bare metal respray, engine rebuild, top end but with cams and Tin wear it came to about £10k...but made a huge difference, that was at about 110k miles and then in I put h&r adjustsble coil,overs , as one of the front top mounts had worn and, in for a penny in for a pound, but again worth it , as 110k original suspension had to be past its best, looks much better lowered slightly. Only interior mod has been a new steering wheel, to be honest it could do with new carpet and the seats doing, but I think of that as Value enhancing patina;). If you have the buying guide from classic cars last year, that's my car in cobalt blue. If you are going to use it quite a bit, I'd think about the headlight upgrade via rpm, as if you are used to modern headlights, the 964 is quick enough to expose them as hopeless.
By today's standards it's not a fast car, but having the engine and suspension done on mine has really transformed the driving experience, I guess your dilemma is that if you have to pay close to £40k for one, can you be sure it's sorted because they are not cheap to get them a1 ! And I guess that's why you are thinking gt3,...keep us updated !

White 997 GT3 3.8 arrived this afternoon. Not had chance to take out properly as gritters are out !!
I'm sure I would love GT4, but love instant heavy & mechanical feel of transmission and feels so compact compared to 991 GT3. Obviously slower, less torque but have clutch and stick to use at last !
Will post pictures and proper review next couple of days.

Tricky to find a good 964 C2 nowadays.
Rough ones are mid thirty grand, and they are still few and far between
The five speeds box is far more suited to them than the six speed in the later cars
And you can wring their necks on. Dry late night country runs. Just get a road angel first.
I had one a few years ago, and it was just on the verge of the inevitable thirty grand rebuild.
Once you start spending on them, it's hard to stop
Oil leaks, clutch brakes and gearbox. Suspension and bodywork.
I just do t see them as a fifty sixty grand car.
I got out of mine when a 993C4S appeared one evening.
I miss the 964, it drove brilliantly, however every time I think of swapping back I can only think of the rotten plastics at the rear. Theres £800 right there. The rotten plastics in the gauges that delaminate. Another £500 fix
And every other bit on them that costs money to fix
Leaky sunroof and door trims that make the car damp.
Nothing worse than a damp car
Rotten headlights. Another £500
964s are great to do two thousand miles a year in, and lock in a garage, or polish
The GT3 is on another planet on every other level.

Used my GT3 quite a lot given freezing temperature.
I'm actually very surprised how well the cups grip in this weather.
Love the fact I have to think about everything when driving it, it's so alive but not at all intimidating ! It's more powerful than I expected (had 991 GT3 previously) and just a joy. I know it's honeymoon period, but if weather kind this weekend I'll go for a few hours drive and give full report and images .
