997GTS versus 997TT
Discussion
Hello
I am looking at my next 911 after my 996 4S, 997S and GT3 Gen II, and which I sold way back in 2010.
I have a soft spot for the 997GTS but it costs the same as a TUrbo. I have driven both but only the GTS in anger on a circuit.
How would you compare the 2 in terms of enjoyment and overall value? I cannot believe a Turbo S should not be a lot more valuable than a GTS in the long term.

My Pork car history makes me well qualified for this one -- 987S, 997S, 997 C4S Cab, 997.1 TT, 997 TT Cab, 997 GTS
For me my Turbos were awesome things but got to the stage where i was driving it because it was impressively fast rather than because i was enjoying it (and i know that sentence probably doesn't make sense). Went to the GTS to slow down a bit and enjoy the ride and 2.5 years later I haven't looked back.
Horses for courses as many would never look back from a Turbo as they are epic all weather supercars, but i missed reving out a NA engine. Also missed any likelihood of keeping my licence as the Turbos only come alive when provoked and when provoked they go pretty quickly, pretty quickly.
With a Turbo you can't argue with the bragging rights in terms of performance however, and very tuneable
Not sure i have helped.....
P.S. I think they are both reasonably safe places to avoid massive depreciation, but don't buy either just as an investment if you want to enjoy owning them.

Normally Aspirated v Turbocharging?
If you did a poll I think more people would prefer the N/A power delivery, even though the Turbo might be faster. For me, N/A, no contest.
It's also (depending on the spec of GTS you go for) If you did a poll I think more people would prefer the N/A power delivery, even though the Turbo might be faster. For me, N/A, no contest.
C4 vs C2
Manual vs PDK
To me is you go GTS you go Manual, 2wd. Then it's a genuinely different car to a Turbo.
Once you start going PDK and C4 you're talking much less difference. The manual C2 weighs IIRC 90kg less than a PDK C4....that's quite a difference.
Many thanks for the replies.
This is not for an investment! On the other hand £65k for a 5 year old car costing £75k is really steep and does not compute here very well.
I would not go for 4wd, however finding a manual will be far more difficult.
Let me see, I will décidé next month. In the meantime I am driving the new Alfa Quadrofoglio this weekend...

Hmm... haven't owned a GTS, but have driven one. Brilliant car, great sound and handle really well, and yes the power delivery is smoother.
But with the 997tt you get that kick which pushes you back in your seat and propels you forward. It's a heady, addictive rush that is a bit dangerous, but is awesome and reminds you how potent a machine you are in. It also makes me smile, a lot, sometimes uncontrollably :-)
Drive both, then decide what you like more, the smoothness of the N/A DFI powerplant or the boost of the turbocharged Mezger unit

Have to drive them. I settled for a PDK GTS, having turned down a manual, bucket seated GTS which just wasn't my thing. Also drove a 997.2 Turbo which was bordering on ludicrous, but I struggle to enjoy the GTS without fear of some serious points. Very different cars, big part of me felt the GTS just felt more special than a Turbo. Enjoy the hunt!

I think one thing the GTS has over the TT is that on country roads you can explore more of its capabilities whilst staying relatively legal! I think the TT is just so quick it's hard to get anywhere near its genuine capabilities and part of the fun in these cars is to feel like you're stretching them to some extent. Cheib said:
