It's a Golf. They start at £17k otr. At £33k it was always pushing it but justified it's price according to some reviews. At £50k it's totally out it's depth. And £40k. IMO it looks £30k. Different times = build small numbers with nice shiny plaque on dashboard... rip out rear seats... wrap steering wheel in Alcantarta... pay some psycho a bag of fluffy bunnies if he can rag it around the ring quicker than a CTR / Meg Trophy etc... then market it as a 'hardcore' bh weapon and voila - SOLD OUT hehe

Agreed, its really silly. A friend of mine bought one of the last mk3 Meganes, fully loaded 275 Nav S for £21K. Still the best hot hatch drive according to most reviews and its not like its that difficult or expensive to unbolt the rear seats, upgrade the suspension and slap on some Cup 2s if one is that way inclined.

If you replaced 'Golf' above and increased the numbers say.. 5x you could be describing.... the base 911/GT3 RS to a T.....

Collected mine today. Really impressed so far.

Lovely little thing - has a very similar feel to my old R26R.
Can it put its 300+bhp down mid corner or when exiting a corner? I'm surprised a front wheel drive car can put down that sort of power. When Sport Auto put the CS S on a dyno it was putting down circa 330PS! I find it amazing that it could in theory just about stay in touch with something like a Cayman GT4 around the Ring.

By the looks of the video I'd say yes. Mines only done 20 miles so I'm in no position to say yet.

I can compare performance with my GT4 though. When I've done some miles I'll post my impressions.

Owned the R26R for four years and still miss that. The clubsport S has the potential to be part of the fleet for a while. Much prefer it to the M2 I had earlier in the year.

I went out in mine on soaking wet B roads last weekend, and the amount of grip it has is totally astonishing, and one of the stand out features of the car. I drive a Golf R too, and the CS has a totally different feel to it, which I wasn't expecting. I also have an M2, and just parted company with a 991RS, and this CS shows similar levels of excitement to those 2 cars.

The front differential hasn't really been written about much by the press, I guess because they've mainly driven it on dry roads or racetracks. I have driven many powerful front wheel drive rallycars, which have mechanical plated front diffs, and unless you drive them by the 'scruff of the neck', they can tug you about a bit. The active hydraulically controlled diff on this Golf is a revelation. On the exit of a wet uphill open hairpin in 2nd gear, you can feel the outside wheel scrabbling for grip, but you never feel the diff loading and unloading....it really is exceptionally good.....You may gather I love this car..!

Interesting. After spending 12 hours in the CS-S yesterday I mostly agree. The car is astonishing. I can not fault it. Unlike the M2 which I hated.

Obviously completely different to the GT4 but so so close to being just as grin inducing. Fun fun fun.

Covered 1000 miles in the CS-S now.

I think it was someone from evo who said it was like an R26R. He was spot on.

An R26R with another 80BHP, some modern luxuries and completely indistinguishable from every other Golf on the road.

Perfect Q car.

I have a R26R. Love it, but rather too distinguishable from everything else. The wife was not best pleased with the red wheels, cage and stickers. I've been liking the idea of the CS-S for that reason, but they're an expensive golf with the overs; sounds great though.

Time on my hands in the holiday season so am compiling a mental list of cars I need in 2017. Exige 380, 991.2 GT3, Maserati levante (school run), FF... top holiday sport!

Interesting, what was it you disliked with the M2?

"Hated" was maybe a touch too strong but I particularly disliked the suspension and manual gearbox.

The suspension felt peculiar to me. There was a mismatch between pitch and roll. Laterally in corners the suspension was good. But on the brakes, under acceleration or dealing with bumps there was way too much unsettling bounce.

My natural preference is for a manual gearbox. However if I ever own an M2 again it will definitely be a DCT equipped car. The ratios were fine for thrashing, but misjudged for day to day spirited driving. Changing up at say 5000rpm would drop you right out of the power band so that lovely sense of acceleration vanished after every gear change. The lever position was too far rearwards and made the transition from holding the steering wheel to selecting the next gear awkward.

I think the M2 is a great little car but it did not suit me at all.
