I know it seems a bit OCD but my VTS fob is housed in a horrible plastic jobbie and really annoys me. Does anybody know of a nicer looking alternative?

Thanks

um, you might as well not have the tracker activated if you keep it connected to the key... It is supposed to be kept in your pocket otherwise it's pointless

Thanks.

This card is a bit of a poor idea isn't it? Jack is right, ie it defeats the object of having a tracker if the card is attached to the key. But I know if I start carrying it separately in my pocket I'll lose it in under a week.

I suppose emptying out my wallet and sticking it in there will be the only other option.

Change your tracker to one of these: http://www.trackersecurity.co.uk/

No need to carry a fob then, and better tracking capabilities too.

This key holder is rather smart and works for all your keys http://richingsgreetham.co.uk/shop/the-key-pouch/k... If you scroll down there a neat little Gif of it in action.

Now that is very smart, I have keyless entry so it makes even more sense. I'll probably still keep the tracker card in my wallet but will buy one of these to stop the keys jangling and tearing my suit pockets.

Cheers!

Depends on your car but most insurers will want Thatcham CAT-5 or 6. That's a CAT-7 so as good as not having one for insurance purposes. Besides which, their website looks like a computer challenged 8 year old made it so talk about inspiring confidence!

The VTS isn't Cat 5 or 6.

Thatcham Insurance Approved Trackers Why do Insurers request Thatcham Certified Trackers ?

Insurance companies are at risk from theft and can mitigate the risk by requesting owners to fit high quality and independantly tested after theft recovery tracking systems. The world's leading body on validating Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) tracking systems is Thatcham Research.

Thatcham Research is the motor insurers’ automotive research centre. Established by the motor insurance industry in 1969, with a focus to contain or reduce the cost of motor insurance claims whilst maintaining safety standards. Thatcham is the UK’s only ‘not for profit’ insurer funded research centre they are recognised globally as the leaders on testing motor vehicles for security and safety with the highest vehicle security standards.

Manufactures and supplies of Thatcham approved trackers must invest time, money and resource to ensure their products can achieve the Thatcham Standards. Thatcham Trackers are independently tested and verified to set criteria CAT 5, CAT 6 or CAT 7. Automatrics Trackers are all tested to CAT 7, as this is the only category that Thatcham engineers test to recover assets without any GPS signals, such as when a GPS jammer is in use or if stolen vehicles are simply hidden from GPS satellites. All CAT 7 units must have RF Radio Frequency technology which can detect signals inside buildings, lock-ups or steel shipping containers. CAT 7 devices unlike GPS only devices use secret Radio Frequency signals, either VHF Very High Frequency (less accurate) or UHF Ultra High Frequency (accurate to less than one metre)

CAT 7 Thatcham criteria does not specify to use VHF or UHF and a GPS receiver is not required, however all Automatrics units use the more accurate UHF Radio Frequency and also have additional high powered GPS receivers. You can review the Thatcham CAT criteria and all the additional Automatrics MTrack features on our Thatcham Compare chart. The Automatrics multilayer location technology approach give all of our products and services a distinct advantage that keep the criminals guessing !

Just had the same problem with regards the plastic fob, I bought one off eBay which is a bit of a home made affair but looks quite good on the key ring.

Yes, those horrible plastic cases are terrible. I thought they were just for storing the VTS card.

I’m very surprised that there isn’t a key fob hole in the plastic card.

I know it’s better to keep the card and key separate so that if the car is stolen by the key being stolen then the monitoring service know this.

Am I being dim, but is it not possible to just ring and tell them the car is stolen? Surely you can’t turn the tracker off with the key card?

I have a Automatrics tracker on another vehicle and all the remote dies is change the alarm state, I can just ring them and they can operate the tracker regardless of the remote. It also has radio tracking as well as GPS/GSM so functions regardless of a GPS jammer being used.

yes the insuranace would have a field day and not pay out if you have it on your key.

What happens if the person who stole it attaches it to your key ?

Imagine if some one took both the key and the fob from you under duress and the car was stolen, do you honestly think the insurance company are going to refuse payout because the thief took the fob ? They have a hard enough task locating the car before it’s locked in a container, the GSM antenna is rendered useless by the activation of a cheap jammer so the monitoring station can’t connect to the car or locate it let alone conduct a needle in a hay stack search for an elastic band that might have had the fob lashed to the key ring ?
