I agree. Why would anyone take care of a press car? Maybe I wouldn't rag the car mercilessly from cold but I certainly wouldn't treat it the same as I would mine. There simply isn't the economic incentive to do so.
The interior also gets worn badly. I mean do they actually get new leather coverings in the prep for re-sale? Otherwise to me, I'd budget for an early engine rebuild and new interior trimmings at the v least.
Funnily enough I saw a 997.2 Carrera ex PEC Silverstone car at an OPC recently - the spec was fantastic and it was apparently getting a lot of interest. Mileage wasn't too bad but it was the PCCB that put me off in the end. Whilst I don't believe that these cars were ragged from cold, they are spanked senseless and all that hard braking around the small circuit would have almost certainly reduced the life of the brakes. Maybe to the point of being close to needing a swap and £20k brake change (or whatever it is) didn't really appeal!

Finally managed to get Mrs James T down to local OPC to drive the blue Boxster GTS on Saturday and also managed a quick trip out myself. The GTS is a real event to drive (and not a mark on it either!), but 'it's too fast and a little brash/loud' for Mrs JT. Back to the drawing board. I think the 'drive' behind the idea is more from me than her. My excitement is diminished frown

I'd choose the 987 R over the 981 GTS.

It's more focused, rawer, there are fewer cars and it's further down the life curve so prices are solid and have moved up again, plus it was a hardcore following.

It'll be one of those cars which gets highlighted over the years a little like the 968 CS.

And I'd take it in Peridot Green as that was the launch colour. JZM have a nice one (or had after this post)! wink

Or viper green lol

Father in law has a peridot green Cayman R and we took it on a Porsche trip up around the Scottish Highlands 3 weeks back and shared the driving. It's a great car but I wouldn't want to drive it every day. He isn't getting why younger, considering getting him into something a little more civilised perhaps.
