How the hell did this happen? I usually drive around there, it's extremely busy and slow traffic especially on that road confused

offset pedals in early 911s ( in fact until late 90's)

Bit of panic, goes to slam on brakes, ends up with full acceleration ???

Someone new to old 911's showing off, too much gas, back end steps out, panics and hits gas instead of brake.

Difficult to do on West End Lane and very embarrassing.

Hope the woman who was trapped recovers quickly!

IMO you guys are being very kind to the driver commenting that the pedal offset could be the cause. Either 1) he/she was trying to park as close the the coffee shop as possible (it is busy round there) , or 2) said driver is ignorant to the effect an engine positioned behind the rear axle has in the damp. Even moderate throttle action can do this, especially to one of those lovely beasts.

Hmmm, 1 or 2 scratchchin

PS - has no ne enquired as to how the car is doing laugh

There are CCTV cameras down there. If they were pointed the right way, I'm sure the driver will have some fun with the insurance company.

If I recall, there is also a direction sign/map (the steel ones that you get in the City of London) right there which is pretty large, would have taken some skill to position between or not be stopped by it.

There is a zebra crossing just before the cafe too. Last time, I drove that road, took me at least 10 mins to go between the library and West Hampstead st., it's a pretty busy road on almost everyday. It's usually known to cause overheating not cafe-heating for porsche over there laugh

Or how was that person able to get behind the wheel of that car in the first place!

My guess is going too fast, someone stepped out in the road and swerved to avoid. Even doing 30 mph you could probably find yourself in a cafe window if you swerved to avoid something? Especially if it has period correct brakes!

Does my eagle eye spot only one brake mark , on the ground at the LH rear wheel, and none visable on the RH side ?

Looks like LHD - so rules out offset pedals excuse somewhat.

More pics in the Daily Mail!

Apparently it's a £50,000 car... if anyone wants my immaculate, fully restored 912 in a better colour they can have it for much less than £50k!

That looks sensational. But a long hood needs a 6 banger in the tail. It just has to be a 911

Indeed.

The 912 has superior handling and balance compared to the 911 of the same year due to the smaller and lighter motor which is further forward. The 912/356 engine is also surprisingly pokey and gets the car down the road very well.

Mine has the 5 speed box, a couple of tweaks to the power, plus uprated suspension, and is a terrifically fun, thashable, and chuckable car.

Like the old saying goes, don't knock it until you've tried it.

And I own an air cooled 911 as well, so I would say I'm in a fairly good position to judge smile

Left rear wheel is a steelie so may be a recently fitted spare ... other three are Fuchs, I wonder how old the tyre is.

Ninja - your 912 looks wonderful!
