Feeling ripped off.... by an Indy!!

The OP says in the first post that his other half was informed that they (the indy) had carried out several other tasks and that the £50 was for the filter. So not £50 of labour just to fit a filter. He doesn't say what the charge for the oil and filter change was. At my Indy it's about £190 (inc VAT). So assuming similar, the extra £84 for a part, several other tasks and VAT sounds reasonable to me.Just to check that you checked your oil level while the engine was cold?
When I bought my nine year old 997, first trip was a 700 mile round trip to the lakes. I checked the oil on the electronic dip stick en route and was extremely alarmed that oil was barely above minimum after say 200 miles. The car was from a respected dealer.
Lesson was to check the oil while the engine is cold. Which showed the oil as being almost full some, even 6000 miles and four/five months later

OMG A cabin filter costs about £22 so it appears the this scurrilous Indy has actually charged the sum of £28 to fit it.
Im not disputing that they may have fitted this in error but the statement "ripped off" is rather inappropriate in this instance!
I would suspect replacing a cabin filter is a pretty unlikely way of boosting turnover and would have been done in good faith?
Probably best to take the car to an OPC in future.

No problem about the rambling! It's the missing information that intrigues me. For instance, what were the 'several other tasks' that contributed to the extra labour charge on the bill? Did the OP tell them he had a cabin filter (and other stuff) that he would be doing himself? Was the '£50+labour', a total for an OEM filter plus labour or was it £50 for the filter (a Porsche original one is £51.72 according to the Design 911 website). Did the OP chat with the Indy about his new car when he dropped it off and possibly get in to one of those conversations like, Indy: "we'll give it a good check over for you while it's here", OP: "yes, that would be good"? I certainly have chats with my indy along those lines and I don't expect them to do checks or any minor work they find for free. They will also use Porsche original parts where it is necessary for the warranty (e.g. it gets a Porsche oil filter at a ridiculous cost of £25 + VAT rather than and OEM one that will do just as good a job) Any thing major they will call me about to discuss what I want to do.
Sorry for my ramblings too. I think we're only getting part of the story and the indy is getting a trial by internet over something that could easily be sorted out face to face. By the OP starting a thread about being ripped off I fear it might be the indy telling the OP to take his business elsewhere, rather than the other way round.
Well I had an amicable chat with the owner of the Indy today. He was also surprised that our bill had gone beyond the oil and filter change requested. It seems that once in the workshop the job card had somehow become a Minor Service, less the cost of the 1l of oil short filled previously and a further allowance for the 1l of oil I had had to purchase at petrol station (ie stress purchase)prices.
We agreed that as none of the items were requested, beyond oil and filter ( the vehicle had been serviced by another Porsche Indy in Essex 6 months ago)they should not have been done without consultation and that this was unacceptable. But, also, as the items taken care of were genuinely required and clearly had been taken care of, it falls under the `No harm, no foul` understanding. Other than I have his word that it won`t happen again and I believe it was a genuine mistake, we parted on best terms and I am happy to continue to be a customer.
So we have a clear understanding that any works beyond those requested will not be carried out without authorisation or refusal to pay will be the default option. I am happy that this was agreed mutually and feel confident that it was just a mess up internally at the garage that was compounded by my wife simply paying up rather than challenging the price, leaving me feeling sore about the invoice price almost doubling.
I noticed that someone commented about the cabin filter being cheap. Not at £50 plus labour charge it isn`t. I bought a Bosch activated charcoal filter from Euro for less than £25, there is no way under the sun that a £50 Porsche branded part of this type is going to be any better. But we all have a choice to make and while I wouldn`t be keen to use less premium products, I do feel that companies like Bosch/Brembo/Mobil/Michelin etc etc are unlikely to be supplying dealerships with better products than they sell through other retail outlets.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your views and opinions, much appreciated.

Good to get to a resolution - I can see how this mistake can happen, as most people wouldn't be faffing about with the other bits themselves. We agreed that as none of the items were requested, beyond oil and filter ( the vehicle had been serviced by another Porsche Indy in Essex 6 months ago)they should not have been done without consultation and that this was unacceptable.
