Gt4 or a Classic for the Weekend.

Had a Polo BlueGT which is for sale at the moment and fab --- but needed something a little bigger and was beguiled by an Audi RS3 Sportback ---

It refuses to die, keeps coming close and then it recovers after a small cash injection.

Haha that's good going. Obviously you don't find it too big for UK roads. Interested how you get on with it?
I've run one for 14 years. I am on my fourth. As a daily driver I need something that I can drive quickly if I wish or mostly feel chilled back in. I cannot have a vehicle that feels like a coiled up spring waiting to be unleashed or I would be in prison. 993GT2 would be a great example of the coiled spring.
All have been bog standard save for a 380mm front discs with 8 pot brembo brakes. 380bhp 450ft lb of torque. 5.2 to 60 and 150 flat.
Averages 17mpg. Bullet proof reliability and costs nothing in maintenance. Oil and filter and an air filter. Discs last 100,000 miles, pads 50,000. Bodywork is 6'8" and will go through a 7 foot width restriction. 6'6" is very tight but doable.
With its cart sprung axle it moves around a lot on bumpy roads through corners. But Jackie Stewart set the damping and anti roll bar rates on this truck so for a 2.5 tonne lump it equites itself very well. A typical example of Lightning fun was coming off a roundabout with a mile run to another roundabout. Guy in front who I did not know was in a 360 cab with his son I presume. He nailed it off the roundabout. He glanced in his mirror as he braked for the next roundabout to see a me still glued to his arse. The double take was priceless. The missus as usual laughed and said you are a c**t biggrin

thumbup Has the gearbox needed anything during that time? I have a high-mile '08 Cayenne S and I haven't been able to find out if there is an accepted sensible mileage for changing transmission fluid, for example. My car's miles came from the previous owner bombing up and down French autoroutes and it wears the mileage extremely well.

On topic, I dislike commuting by car so daily transport is bicycle or tube. smile

Nope..have 200.000 Km on it about 47,000 under tow...very long runs from Canada to Arizona. Had an expensive fix fie camshaft adjusters the other day ( $4600), and had an oil leak at about 150,000. No tranny problems at all. All fluids were changed based of recommended service intervals. Autoroute miles are a doddle and not heard on the vehicle but towing can can be bought...the shortish strip ( maybe 150 miles) from Scottsdale to Flagstaff AZ rises from 2000 feet to 7700 and some of it is 10% gradient. I did think I would ultimately
have a tranny failure but never happened.

LOL you should see my Jeep Wrangler after a day in the desertsmile... these are working vehicles with lots of road rash on them, but are properly dealer serviced so very good mechanically.

Having checked the thread, looks like I have to be "That Guy".

Why does anyone own a 911, a very useable daily driver, and then drive.... something else? I've never understood this logic. Mileage, depreciation etc.... these are just excuses. Cars are meant to be driven, why would you want to drive something "worse"? it's like being married to Jennifer Anniston but stepping out with Dot from eastenders!

(We have an XC90 T8 for family outings, but when I got to work/out with the kids on my own it's always the 911).

Check again, and the reasons are in plain sight; bikes, boards, dogs, kids etc. etc. that many of us shift if not daily, then at least once weekly. Needs must.

Plus, from my POV, it always feels so very special and 'alive' when I finally park the van and get some quality time in the 911. Each to their own of course, and I can definitely see the appeal of a 911 as a daily drive and prefer to see them used than polished and garaged all the time!

Sorry, I was speaking about the daily drive into the office (unless you are talkig dogs and boards to the office.... in which case, sign me up!).

We still have the XC90 for family gubbins; but for the 5 days I spend going to the office I want to enjoy myself.
