What are the chances that a GT4RS will be launched at Geneva

So what would you have if you were offered only one, a GT4 RS or a 991.2 GT3 manual?!
Decisions decisions!
I'd love to think this is a genuine question based upon knowledge , but I doubt we'll get that choice, yet! I'd pick the GT4RS all day long.Decisions decisions!
Although I expect most potential GT2 RS owners will know who they are by now.

For me, it would all depend on the engines used. If a GT4 RS had the 3.8ltr GTS Powerkit engine (or a non-detuned version of the 3.8ltr motorsport engine) then I'd go for that, but if it had a 4-pot turbo or some other 'compromised' engine I'd go for a 991.2 GT3.Twinfan said:

I echo your thoughts on that... A 4 pot turbo in an RS product... The fonts would errupt!anonymous said:

Correct. I'd rather not have something that's been intentionally dumbed down. I'm assuming there are significant differences between the GT3 engine and the old 3.8 GTS engine that give the large power difference? Having the GTS engine doing the best it can compared to a strangled GT3 engine would be preferable to me.I know it doesn't really make sense logically, but it's a psychological thing.

Yes, the Carerra engine is dumbed down compared to the GT3 but like I said there will be lots of technical changes. Sticking a non-optimal map and restricted air intakes (for example) on a GT3 engine is less preferable to me than having the GTS engine performing at the best of its more limited capabilities.Fokker said:
To me as long as detuning it doesn't result in the situation we have with the GT4 and the flat spot at 4800 rpm. Its pretty annoying, well to me anyway.
This is the issue I have. Detuning engines usually means they don't feel as athletic as they could (should!) and they can be restricted in annoying ways.anonymous said:

Because you can't try before you buy...The difference between the GT4 3.8 and the 991 GTS 3.8 is night an day to me having driven and owned both. The GT4 just feels like its labouring in comparison when pulling from 4800 revs up whereas the GTS just slams through it.
The GT4 is a great car but thats what ultimately made me sell it.
Thanks for that Fokker, it confirms what I thought. I'm with Enzo Ferrari in that the engine is the heart of the car for me:
“I don't sell cars; I sell engines. The cars I throw in for free since something has to hold the engines in.” - Enzo Ferrari
I personally see the GT4 as a GTS Plus, but not a true Porsche GT product - I expect more in the engine department. If they put the 3.8ltr Powerkit engine in one I'd be in the stampede to get an allocation.
I'd love to put the 3.8 Powerkit engine in my CGTS actually, that would be awesome.

The power-kit engine is a masterpiece to me. Lots of low down torque, midrange and revs happily way past 7k.“I don't sell cars; I sell engines. The cars I throw in for free since something has to hold the engines in.” - Enzo Ferrari

To boot, it sounds bloody fantastic. I've not preached on about a car so much ever and my god I've owned a few. Now in my 40's I said to my brother the other day that i think I'm loosing the 'fizz' when it comes to getting new cars. It got to the point that I went out and bought some classic radio controlled cars that i used to own back in the day just to get that feeling again - invested in a Tamiya Hotshot, Avante and an Egress plus a Traxxas Slash which is nuts if anyone knows anything about the brushless stuff running 3S lipo's! - whay hay! Just got to build them now although they'r worth more in the box.
It's harder to find that feeling that you used to get when you were 20 something and about to go and pick up your new (second hand) 205 GTI 1.9 !
The GTS has reignited that old spark for me. I can't put my finger on it but I think its got a lot to do with the power unit as I didn't fall in love with the GT4 due to the frustrations with the engine. The 991.1 GTS is so urgent everywhere in the range and sounds epic in the cabin.
Its actually the first car I have seriously thought about keeping forever.
Interesting fact (or maybe not), Enzo Ferrari's Birthday - 18th Feb - same as me!

Fair enough but Twinfan was just going on past performance ut hopefully the gearing and the torque issue will be sorted next time round.. I too would prefer to have a motorsport unit but if they put the power kit unit in the next GT4 what will then put in the RS version?Having an RS product without a more 'special' engine would seem odd? Whatever happens i am convinced that we'll see a GT4RS next year. Its a natural progression.
