Just had a call from OPC.

My 718CS, due to arrive at OPC this week for me to collect on 1st March, is being held at the docks in the UK, along with 200 other cars - all Porsches or not I'm not sure. Some kind of shipping issue. OPC doesn't know more detail about the holdup yet but is trying to find out more, and will let me know when they do.

Could be days or a week or two hold-up. Sounds crazy to me but I have absolutely no idea about the logistics of shipping cars from the continent to the UK.

Anyone else heard anything?

I think this is a default excuse / reason - I was told the same 3 months ago when mine was delivered- sorry hold up at the docks, customs issue, don't know when you will get your car - then has to go to Reading etc I got a bit sarcastic with the salesman and then it randomly appeared at the dealership within 24 hours. My conclusion was that the salesman didn't have a clue what was going on / where my car was and they turn up when they do - it irritated me a bit but suggest you are patient (easier said than done !)

More than a week later and still no movement.

OPC is occasionally updating me by email, saying they're chasing everyday, but nothing yet.

Quite bizarre and frustrating with it seeming to be so nearby.

If its not registered to you before the 1st April, this could be expensive!

It could be worse. I collected my Cayenne at the weekend....another Cayenne they were due to deliver last weekend fell off the transporter on the way to the dealership. They can't get a replacement until June!

Hearing very large backlog at the dock caused by quality control issues on the cars needing to be checked before sent over here !!! Crazy ?!!! Been waiting since June order for base Cayman and desperate for car and avoid the new road tax ..... Yes people can say if you can afford a Porsche then another 1800 over 5 years is bugger all but I'm really pushing the boat out .... Got 15 k of options and that looks nothing to what you can have
It's spoilt the whole experience .... The lack of updates the constant delays the joke lottery of ordering at different OPC to get the car quicker..... I'm really disheartened and it's my first Porsche and first car over 20 k and I'm spending 55 k and not enjoying it !!!!

Anders, I quite agree with you., my first experience of a Porsche as well. ordered back in July, in Dec told Feb delivery, then told building 14th Feb, then told 10th March .......So should be completed today, with del in 2 weeks pick up just before April Tax deadline.
Like you getting a tad pissed off, as I thought ordering a Porsche would be a GOOD experience, never spent 60k on a car before, once in a lifetime, now getting frustrated with the whole experience...........but in my opinion best sports car for the money & by far the best looker, hence why I didn't cancel in Dec.

The way the order/manufacturing/delivery process is handled is totally beyond me. My OPC salesman sent me regular screenshots of the updates he was getting although he doesn't trust/rely on it and rings someone either in Porsche GB or AG who he gets more accurate info from. My car eventually arrived at the dealer before the computerised system said it was due to be built...the dates on said computerised system are a guide line and nothing else! Felt more like a random number generator than an accurate logistics system!

The OPC salesman I deal with did a superb job of dealing with it and was as proactive as you could ask anyone to be.

Easy for me to say but try not to let it ruin the excitement of getting your new car.

Welcome to the club boys ! It's not as bad as it was a few years ago where Porsche were clearly doing you a favour by allowing you to buy one of their cars!!

They have dropped their arrogance a notch then. I'm eternally grateful they are honouring me with one of their base products plus crazy options for 55k
Funny though .... Your comment

Sometimes their inaccurate delivery system can bring a nice surprise.

My OPC confirmed on half a dozen occasions that my car was due to arrive with them 10th Nov. Happened to be at the OPC the week before, "by the way, your car arrived unexpectedly this morning". biggrin

Seems the delay/backlog/holdup/whatever has subsided or been dealt with.

OPC emailed me to say that all cars are now clear, including mine, and they can confirm I'll be able to pick it up in a fortnight - 27th March.

JUST before the tax hike on 1st April, so thank fkery for that. bounce

This is now the third time I've had a delivery date, only for things to go Pete Tong, so really hoping this time it's third time lucky.
