I believe a new block is dealt with differently to a whole new engine - they stamp the new block with the original engine number, hence no documentary changes.

My pal got a replacement engine fitted to his GT3 in 2014/5 and it's a different number. He got no paperwork either. It could cause problems in years to come, say stopped by a disgruntled Gendarme in France post Brexit who noticed the discrepancy ?

It would also mean that if his car is stolen and split for parts there is no way to identify the stolen engine, or if recovered separately to the car, that it even belonged to the car.
