Cheers.

Assuming it is a Futura, I had heard that they would fit, BUT:

a) they don't seem to be available any longer; and

b) Klippan don't appear to even have a website, so personally I doubt if they actually exist - I mean how can a real company not have a website

KLIPPAN STOPPED TRADING IN THE UK, FOLLOWING THE TEST RESULT ABOVE - DO AN INTERNET SEARCH.

Thanks for all the info guys, there are more reviews here:

www.dooyoo.co.uk/child-car-seat/klippan-futura-car-seat/

...including some from Mother & Baby magazine that give the Futura 5 stars, so now I'm really confused!

I think I'll continue to use it until she's big enough to use a booster but minimise her time in the car (good excuse for me rather than the missus to take it each day anyway!).

Unfortunately no rear facing seat fits in the back of a 911. You can fit them in the front of the car, but that means having the airbag turned off by an OPC and, if you're brave enough, asking your better half to travel in the back!

Simply not true I'm afraid. Maybe for 993 and earlier models. We have a 996 and a Chico rear facing seat fitted in the back. The 997 has a bit more space so no problems.

FWIW we then got a Porsche seat as I got frustrated trying to find one that fitted (but that was a couple of years ago and it seems there is more on the market now e.g. M&P Pro-tec)

that review is web feedback from buyers, and the mother and baby test was likewise. It was the official testing of safety which led to mothercare and halfords both withdrawing this seat from sale, an extract of which is below:

The Which? crash tests found that, in a severe crash, most seats would fail to prevent chest and neck injuries and potentially fatal head injuries.

The results for three seats (1) were so poor that Which? is recommending that people do not buy them. In the test on Mothercare's Daytona (2) seat, the impact on the child dummy's head was so great that it would have caused brain damage or death. This result was so bad that the seat received an unprecedented total test score of zero. The Mon Bebe Turbo Up scored only 10 out of a 100 and Klippan Futura, also available as the Mama's and Papa's Sicuro, just 12.

Just to add that i know this as I searched to buy a second klippan seat when we bought a new 996 last year (we had a first one from an earlier 996 when we just had the one lad).

There are some graco seats which fit the 996 in halfords, you simply need to remove the seat base (which is held in with Velcro).

Alternatively check ebay for a Porsche prince, we had 2 and whilst expensive we sold both for 80% of the new cost when they were no longer required.

The Klippan is better than no seat, but not by much.

Thanks for all the comments - and you may all rest assured that I do place such a high value on my child's life that I'll take the necessary steps.

Guess I'm back to the drawing board as the Prince remains unsuitable based on the fact that little darling is pretty much at the top of the weight bracket for it.

Now no more emails please telling me what a cr@p father I am as I actually thought I'd found a safe solution, had it checked out professionally (see first post) and done everything I could to take all sensible precautions, at which point I figured I'd share the info for all. Guess I was fooled by the British Safety Standard Kite Mark on the seat.

how old? have you thought about a proper booster seat (i.e. with head support, etc.)? Many of these are slimmer and will fit in the back...

Yes, I assumed that was a joke too.
However, some people are very quick to pass judgement!

I remember in my day that my brother and I used to just "roam around" on the back seat having a fight - no question of "child safety". I guess that just makes me an old duffer (and clearly I'm not saying that it was a good thing).

Surely you are joing about the e-mails? The 996 is genuinely a very safe car for children to be transported in.

What might have unfairly influenced the test results for the futura seat could be that the paperwork says it is suitable rearward facing from birth. Anybody in their right mind would immediately notice how upright, how hard and how little side support it provides if it were to be used with a new baby in this configuration.

At the same time a 3-4 year old using this seat forward facing is probably fine.

The porsche prince seat has a massive lap piece which both our kids hated so its understandable that you went for an alternative.

There are some narrow Graco seats in halfords which use the car belts and fit excellently in to a 996 with the base seat pad removed (as you do with the Porsche prince). They are black velour and from memory we paid £30 each for them.

Regards

That is amazing. Some people.

Agree with you re. the "table" affair in the Prince, though my two seem to have got the hang of it now and be quite happy. Especially the elder who always wants to ride in "Daddy's racing car".

I can't beleive people PM'd you !! Especially given the sh1te that's normally written on these forums!

We thought at first the "table" on the Porsche seat was a bit brutal but they get used to it and actually its quite handy for playing with toys on. You do need to take a pillow in the car for a bit of comfort for them when they have a kip.

I'm surprised to hear about the emails - but then again the fact that they emailed rather than posting their comments says it all! Anyway, as per my previous post on this thread, I use the Mamas and Papas Pro-tec which fits well in the 996 and did well in the Which? Magazine test. It also reclines and has a 5-point harness which I feel makes it better than the Porsche Prince.

I have just put a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 plus in the back seat of my Mar06 997

Looks like it was made for it, 18 month old very happy on the extended test run. Its a bit upright, but she was fine.

Anyone close enough to York could do worse than pick one up from paulstride.co.uk - top service

  • ** FOUND IT!!!!!!!!! ****
After months of search and deliberation my local guy in Munich fitted a Maxi Cosi Tobi to the rear of my 997 Coupe. Haven't removed neither the seat base nor back, and it fits as snug as a bug in a rug and gives LOTS of leg room for the good wife :-)
