Irish what's a power kit? And what sort of exhaust have you got?

Jamie

Ah, Jamie, the X51 carerra is my favourite subject! It consists of:

Here is what is added/modified in the X51 kit:
- new intake manifold with modified cross-section (material: sand cast aluminium );
- new intake pipe supports adapted to the form of the intake manifold;
- new exhaust manifolds with larger cross-section and optimized flow behavior;
- new cylinder heads with optimized, CNC-milled inlet ducts;
- new camshafts with larger valve stroke on the inlet side and modified inlet and outlet timing;
- inlet valve springs adapted to the enlarged valve stroke;
- modified partition box in the oil pan;
- modified maps for the DME control module;
- new underside panel in the transmission area;
- all cars (except C4S) get a third radiator.

the picture is as follows:

Exhaust is a Cargraphic system........don't have too much details other that the purchase checked out 5 types before settling on the one I have.

It's a Porsche Aeorkit? - What's the big deal?

The GT3 snobs don't like it of course, but then plenty of people speccing new 997's on here mention ordering them with the aerokit and they don't get any adverse comments.

Each to his own I say - an early 996 with an aerokit is hardly 'max power'ed' is it?

Aren't GT3's 60 bhp more than carrera c2's ? That's not much, what makes them so special?

Watch out what you say on here!
GT3's are a world away from a standard carrera.
It's lightened up (lighter wheels, less interior rubbish, lightweight seats, aircon only an option, and lighter engine components, little sound deadening, no rear seats or sunroof)
It's also got stickier tyres, larger and stronger brakes, a real bodykit giving more downforce, lower re-tuned suspension, and a reworked engine.

The engine is based on the GT1's dry sump racing unit, and Porsche made significant modifications to the heads, intake, exhaust and computer control systems. They also manufactured it in a unique way to make it much stiffer and stronger than the standard 3.6l unit.
The enine revs much better than the original, and is much stronger and punchier.
A 996 GT3 has been tested to perform 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, and 0-100 in 9.2 seconds. That's seriously quick and far quicker than any standard 911.

Basically the GT3 is a 911 on a crash diet, with more power and better handling to boot. It is for fast road and track use.

All that space behind the front seats make them ideal for shopping. That's what makes a GT3 so special.

They'll need to be careful with woogie, he's much bigger than me.
Well, everyone is.

So it's basically a racing car? Are these ok for day to day use or are they weekend toys?

Bit too extreme for me day to day with the mileage I do.
The powerkit looks good though, although the 7k or so + fitting puts me off a LOT.

Wasn't the original 996 GT3 heavier then the standard carerra C2? (circa 30Kg IIRC)

how does that work?

no increase in torque, no increase in revs, but yet more power?

Yep - as a result of using the 4wd stiffer chassis, seam welding the thing to make it even stiffer, bigger (and heavier brakes) and some more cool stuff.
