I think a load of contributors to this thread have a severe case of paranoia.

Depends where you drive very much. In the rights bits of London and the South East generally it's no problem. When I take my car to the Highlands it's no problem. Wrong parts of the Country (I'm thinking the local (to me) Asda car park) and it would be best not to leave the car!

It also depends on how noticeable your car is. I was AMAZED at the difference between a Lapis Blue 986S and my current Guard's Red one. Chalk and cheese. Roof up - the blue car barely warranted any notice. Roof down the red one screams "look at me". Oftentimes the "lookatme" is just fine...a small, but significant, proportion of the time it isn't.

Just to add fuel to the fire, I've seen some people in their porsches who positively reek of self importance and superiority. Perhaps if you appear "up yourself" it ticks people off?

I think that may be some people's perception. Personally I feel I act no differently when driving my cheap as chips Vectra and my expensive Porsche...

I could have retaliated to her, but felt she was an easy target, being old, haggered, a failure in life, drugged up and drunk, not very funny, had a privaledged background but still achieved absolutely zilch in life, along with being hideously fat and ugly. Also chose not to, out of respect for my friend.

Marquis - Out of respect for your friend I'd drive him down to specsavers if I were you

Anyone who knows me, knows that's not true. It's an easier mistake to make if I was a 996 or newer 997 owner (but no more forgiveable), and less likely to be an enthusiast/mopre concerned with buying new.
Nope the problem is with them. My positive experiences in Germany prove it.

I'm going to have a serious "chat" with him. It doesn't add up at all, the long conversations we've had, when he's gotten wound up bitching about the bitter chav-culture and the reaction against his BMW.
However it may be tactless to say what I think of her , erm....external appearance

jjr1, I would think that comment would perhaps offend a fair few of us "paranoid" contributors. Maybe best to accept that perchance your experience in a Porsche is not the only one out there.

Indeed.

I've owned cars more likely to cause 'offence' that the 996 and they didn't. My driving is the still the same, so it can only be put down to the car.

The worst offender is the 'white van' tailgating in 30mph roads. I now pull over and let them past, especially if I've got the kids in the back.

It's this country's culture, to be envious rather than approving.
