We've been seeing some pretty good results on this fuel...

Some of you might have been down at Goodwood last weekend, if not BP were using one of our cars to demonstrate their 102 octane fuel.

Other than Revo race/track software and some aerodynamic mods the cars standard, basically allows us to run at the higher levels of timing adjustment within the software.

Out of interest, what was the 'before' run, i.e. on either 97 or 98 RON fuel? How long did the car take to adv the ign? Or is this almost instantaneous via the knock sensor? Just curious. thanks

What happens when you can't get to one of the (rare) BP 102 stations and have to put 97/98RON in (or even worse, 95 RON fuel): does the mapping cover this eventuality as well?

Should the knock sensor not detect the pinking or pre-det and retard the ign accordingly?

It requires the ECU to be remapped for the 102 fuel.

the before run was about 383 if i remember correctly

Impressive stuff

Is there a possibility to switch between ign maps in the software via a toggle switch on the dash? Are there any ECUs (MoTEC, etc) that can do this automatically? IIRC the OEM ECU does this to an extent does it not?

the before run was 360ish if I recall....at least the run I caught the end of was.

430+ bhp is incredible gain. Would love to see a chart showing power and torque gains across the rev range.

Very interested in the answer to the questions above re ECU characteristics too.

Last time I looked 102 Ultimate was about £2.40 a litre. Has it come down yet? If not BP are wasting a great opportunity to turn this into a mainstream offering.

I'd heard £2.36 which I've also heard is more expensive that an additive.

Bizarrely they sell it near me, but on the 'wrong side of town'. Can't imagine them ever selling any.

Is 2.40 a litre correct!!! What's the price of "normal" petrol over there? We're complaining about $1.40/litre= 60p/litre!

I believe that BP are only marketing the 102 as track day fuel for those that want the added benefits of such. For the normal man in the street to obtain Race Fuel is sometimes difficult. 102 race fuel is £76 for 25 litres plus carraige, which is expensive as it is hazardous goods.

With the BP you can just drive in, fill up & fill a 23litre can and go to your chosen track day.

The Revo programme allows you to have a standard upgraded 97 or 98 map for day to day use and a full on track day [102]map, all achieved using your hand held SPS device.

A lot of BP's development was done here, the dyno graphs in their brochure were from here, the Revo car was mapped on our dyno, prior to Goodwood. It was nice to see it repeat the numbers it did here at F.O.S. time and time again

Cheers

Would you get better gains from a Turbo (ie a 996TT or GT2) ?
Would be intetested to see how much extra it gives a 996TT

The software is adjustable anyway...

you get throttle response, timing and A/F adjustment via the Revo SPS3 (Serial Port Switch)

As the guys from Weltmeister say it can be set to 95, 98 or 'Race' fuel using an SPS2.

So basically if you don't make it to a garage with 102 octane fuel you can plug your SPS into the diagnostic port and switch the setting to a lower fuel quality map... it's a matter of seconds to do it really!

Software on a Twin is going to see between 50 and 75bhp with 80 to 90ftlb increase at peak (dependant on fuel, conditions and settings) we've not had a play with a twin on 102 though. I believe the fuel alone gave a 15-20bhp increase on the GT3 the rest was in conjunction with the software.
