Hi Chaps,
Trying to fit nex exhaust boxes to my 996C4.
I've loosened all the nuts and bolts, but the buggers will not shift!
Am I missing something? Is it an engine out job?
any suggestions much appreciated.
cheers
Neil

If all the bolts and clamps have been undone you'll need a rubber mallet to break the stiction (sp?) on the muffler pipe joints.

Stick a piece of wood on the muffler and using the mallet hammer away from the joint (if that makes sense).

Make sure you're not stood under it

Now come on. How do expect the thread to degenerate with a question like that!

cos its compliant, but strong.

wood splinters and absorbs too much of the force.

would have thought it depends on the density of the drift in question.

what you say probably is correct *but* I couldn't bring myself to use ally on mufflers just in case I bent them

He's right you know

As long as the drift is softer than the thing you're trying to shift then generally you're fine. The vibration also helps to break the stiction

Ally is a good choice on a cast iron manifold or a mild steel exhaust. You only want to tap it, not it.

thats the point, Knifefight. the ally is softer than the mufflers and will therefore give before the exhaust.

just remind me the last time you did anything on your car, other than polish it?
