A couple of friends of mine have these cars and today day we were discussing the usual topic of which one will be quickest 0-top speed obviously they could'nt agree.
The M5 is standard but with the limiter in place, the turbo has the factory kit.
Before they eventually lock horns just thought i'd see what the forum thought.

DucatiG, big talk if it was a standard C2......Rob05, if you go to the vmax forum and look at past results, I think the X50 996TT is the faster car at that particular discipline.

ask anyone who seen us at lemans, its as standard as a standard thing standing in a standard way on standard street, if the M5 is the same I think he could make some cash.

offer still stands

Its an E60 and rather nice, light blue colour,he says its standard but the wheels dont look stock nor does the quad exhaust.
Really just wanted to hear what you lads thought,as i have'nt read any tests or seen any lap time data regarding the two cars side by side.
I'm quite sure someone on here will have them, also this forum turns over rather quicker than what i'm used to at the moment, hence the reason i posted here.
Ps clubsport i have had a look but i cant find it,maybe its because i dont know what i'm looking for?

Gary have you driven one?
I can tell you that the car is mental! My M3 would have killed my old C2 never mind the M5,but as far as the turbo goes having driven both it would be to close to call for me anyway.

ok ok ill admit the e60 m5 is an amazing road weapon but id be suprised if a 996 turbo didnt blow its doors off.

Rob, I reckon the X50 will win on say a 0-150 but the M5 won't be far behind......Of course, DucatiGary will be some way in front of both you.

Evo's figured times:

996TT (non X50) was 0-150 in 24.9 and M5 22.9 over same increment. You can lop 2/3 seconds off the TT time with X50 kit.

The M5's gear changes are consistent though, you'd have to be mechanically unsympathetic to match the 911s.

Sorry guys but a stock 996TT would lose against the M5:

You could modify the 996TT to 510+bhp then it would keep up:

lets be fair here, if the company wasent paying and it was your own money, what would you rather have, the pinnacle of near 40 years of constant design and improvments or a bmw ?

so, a piece of motorsport history or, a bmw.

a desing classic no matter what the age, OR a bmw .. .. .. ..

surely any sane person would come to the same conclusion, bmw M series cars wish they where porsches, why settle for second best?

But you can't fit the family and all their luggage in a Porsche.

When the Panamera (sp?) comes along then I'll reconsider.

Totally different cars. The M6 is the BMW you should be comparing the Porsche against.

Having been in a tweaked SL65 AMG up against an E60 M5.. I think the result might be suprising..

I can.

It's my main family car, though it is a mere C2. I've got two kids under 5.

M5 is on my list of will-haves though.
