Not so. There's no baiting and life's a rich tapestry. I totally agree with your right to enjoy the pure 2wd thing and to talk about it. I was just pointing out that the OP wasn't asking that question and if I was the OP I'd have been a bit miffed about the thread being hijacked.

Certainly no malice intended and I'm chilled too

This is a no brainer to me. 996TT every time.

(1) Second hand good 996TT’s are now very similar money to a new 997 C2, and a lot cheaper than the 997 S.

(2) a 996TT (especially in X50 guise) is an astonishing car & frankly a totally different proposition from a standard 996/7. To me Porsches are about dynamics not posing (Ferrari does posing a lot better) C4S are the best of the 300 - 355 Bhp 911’s but a TT is a drive you will always crave and always be leagues ahead. Up to 100 Bhp more in the turbo’s, before we even mention ECU reprogramming, makes a for a HUGELY different car.

(3) A Turbo is the Porsche every one dreams of and is respected as such. The prevalence of standard 911 cars, while still all worthy, the 996TT is also rarer.

(4) Excellent as the C4S is, and it looks good too *, I still feel it is like a mock Tudor home, aping but never delivering the real appeal (AKA blistering pace) of the original.

* on the subject of looks I have been tempted to put the C4S rising rear wing on my 996 TT. Because I feel the C4S is the more resolved design and the standard turbo rear spoiler is just that, a spoiler of the looks. The only reason I have not is because I can’t get any meaningful down force statistics on the 2 spoilers at various speeds. Anyone have these ?

Guys, thanks for all responses. I actually value all of the feedback. The different points made are all ones that have been buzzing round my head: C2S or C4S - is it worth paying the premium? If so, why? If C4S, then why not 997TT? And why not save ££ & buy the 996TT which is a stonker of a car? I didn't feel any difference in the steering feel on a back to back drive of C4S & C2S on a combo of bumpy lanes & dual c/way, & the C4S does not feel like the 996 C4S at all. But, the C2S feels so surefooted that I was left wondering whether to bother stumping up the extra for the C4S. In the end, my choice of C4S came down to: flared rear end, possible usefulness of AWD (with the kids aboard), unobtrusiveness of AWD, steering feel (compared to 997C2S) & the (controversial) "fact" that the C4S will actually take you from point to point faster than a C2S in all driving conditions As for TT, I get the impression that, tho it's a beast on steroids in terms of performance, it's a bit muted in terms of sound whereas the carrera sounds grrrreat (esp. with PSE). So I should see whether the sound, after a year or so, leaves me wanting more blistering performance; then I'll yet again risk a divorce for the sake of an "investment" the size of a semi-detached house, in 997 TT. For now, I just can't wait to get my greasy palms on my new 911! Razor.

Nice choice - I doubt you'd have been disappointed with the C2S, but the C4S is also a very special car, and I'm glad I made that choice.

I agree that the new Turbo sounds disappointing, but I'm sure that the power makes up for it!

Yeah, it's the power that's got me mesmerized by the car - I re-watched the Jason Plato drive of the car last night: he couldn't contain himself, describing (almost with tears in his eyes) as "phenomenal" at least twice.

One other thing that's going thru my mind is that I'd have to wait 1 year for a new TT. I just can't wait that long to get in a 911!

I've been trying to decide whether to go for a 997 or TT next as well, but having just come from a PCGB tour event, it's just become a bit more obvious. I was chasing 2 996TT's and decided to have a go in one of them. The car felt like a jet fighter as mentioned and on any straights, they would just leave the rest for dead. but unfortunately i still wouldn't spend my money on it. It felt a bit too easy as one of you mentioned. it's probably one of the easiest supercars to drive, especially coupled with Tip and is suited for full use. and on country roads,a doubt a C2s woud be much slower, trust me on that,i saw it happening for 5 miles of proper roads and driving(except on str8s). If you really want the power, and it is soo soo addictive btw, then might a suggest u get the manual with some mods, inc. sports exhausts(sensible noise levels probably adds to the everyday supercar logo),suspension. if ur getting the 997tt then the lsd /manual with Tubi! Me? a white 997gt3 is all anal seekers need now that they are slightly more forgiving and comfortable. But most important, please do drive all of them,we all have different tastes, there are limitations as to taking decisions from other forum users or even tv motoring programs for that matter!

These days in the 911 line up there are subtle shades of driver involvement and preference, engineering nuances of the finest detail, deft adjustments to delight the informed driver palate, a veritable cornucopia of choice pork.

Then you remember forced induction is best
