I agree, there were no focal points for each register ether so anyone with any questions about a particular model wouldnt know where to go or who to ask.

The trade stands were rubbish and no deals were to be had. Food was a rip off, not enough to do for children etc etc.

Err.... excuse me.

Pedal Karts. F.O.C.
Climbing wall. F.O.C.
Gladiator cotton bud thing. F.O.C
Dodgem Cars F.O.C.
Kiddies big wheel F.O.C.
Kiddies avalance ride F.O.C.
Tumble ride F.O.C.
Scalextrix F.O.C.
Laser clay shooting F.O.C.
Falconry Display F.O.C
Cayenne off road ride F.O.C.
Porsche reaction tester F.O.C.
Numerous stands giving away drinks / sweets / goodie bags

Forgive me if I`ve left anything out, (I believe the Michelin F1 simulator was taking a small donation for the Bill Taylor memorial fund so haven`t included it as free).

I too prefer Brands because of the action though think there is much that could be done to improve it. This year was a different, more laid back affair. In an ideal world you would have each event every year but in practice that would not be possible.

It was worth the entry fee just to let the kids loose on the dodgems for 3 or 4 hours, and yes there were some running round to get straight back onto the rides as soon as they came off so I think they had a bit of fun.

That was my gripe from 3 years ago, everything cost a couple of quid once you were inside, this year we wanted to change that and worked with the club to ensure it was the case.

I too was concerned about phrases like "no trader to display current model Porsches or parts for current model Porsches", in the event our 997 C4S was left alone (although we did have a cracking contingency plan had we been asked to remove it from display !).

My wife came with her Mum and our two kids (4 & 2yrs). Ok, they were free to get in but the adults were £15.00ea on the day (not per car as is the norm at TIPEC event). My children were too young for most of the rides although I did take my eldest on the dodgems which he enjoyed. If it wasnt for the rides that 911virgin laid on it would have been hopeless. My point is (and I have raised this on the PCGB forum) that it would not have cost much to lay on a bouncy castle and maybe an entertainer for the two days. It seemed that the show was too busy keeping Porsche GB happy and having a 'garden party' that they kept referring too. The majority of car enthusiasts are not interested in all the pomp and ceromony that was going on. Last year many of these points were raised and the PCGB said that they took them on board but nothing changed this year.

We took the family too and overall felt it was a pleasant afternoon, but little more than that to be honest.

The 911Virgin fair was good for slightly older kids – ours are a bit young and whilst a bouncy castle, merry go round etc would have been great - they were actually quite happy just wandering.

I thought the real problem was that the ‘festival’ had little focus or point. Sure there were lots of lovely cars sitting around to be admired but that’s not what Porches are for. Being part of a race meeting at Brands really did give the festival a purpose and lots of options for the parade etc.

So if it wasn’t based on the celebrating the living sporting heritage, it might have been a show in the same way the best country show / game fairs work, i.e an extensive and varied entertainment programme with a really good trade fair to ensure there is something for everyone.

I though prize for really ‘guilding the lily’ had to go to the bright spark who deemed it reasonable to entitle a few tables and chairs outside a beer tent a garden party.

The Porsche Car GB presence was quite large and did bring a bit of a corporate feel. V disappointed to see the restrictions they insisted on.

It’s the 3rd event I’ve been to – one ten years ago, one at Brands and now this. I think that’s probably enough for me

I thought there would be more current models on display from porsche GB.You couldnt even sit in the blue 997 they had on display. At the last rrec meeting I went to there were a couple of phantoms and bentleys that you could sit in and have a good look at.There should have been more cuurent models on display unlocked for people to sit in and appreciate.

Thats because they want to make sure you can afford it before they let you in it. I was chatting to a salesman about that blue 997 because I have seen it on the road near Reading. He was very pleasant and commented on how much he liked driving the 968CS and used to used to drive one on Porsche Track days when they were new for demonstrations to customers. However, after that he seemed pretty keen to get rid of me.

I agree with you though, for many (me included) it is the only chance to get really close up to a new Porsche and the chance to sit in a couple would have been nice.

Although people were being allowed to sit in the GT3.

I thought it was much better than previous static National events.

They had listened and laid on lots of free entertainment for the kiddies (thanks Henry), and I managed to batter my 16 year old son on the pugil sticks, but was beaten up the rock climb by my 13 yr old mad The Cayennes were great fun in the field (but I've made a mental note of the four registration plates for when they try to sell them on )

My team won the Karts/ Scalextric/ Shotgun challenge so we have a track day each,a hamper each and two bottles of bubbly each. The atmosphere (and beer) around the campfire and BBQ in the campsite was just as good as ever. You have to take part in these things if you want to get anything out of them. The only downside for was the lack of segregated parking which always allows you to chat and make new friends with owners of similar cars.

I totally disagree about the encroachmanet of corporate Porsche Cars and their huge marquee - its been like that for every one of the last eight years that I've gone - what do you expect at a Porsche show???? I'd be disappointed if they weren't there.

Finally - did anyone see if the 944 GTR sold in the COYS auction and how much it went for?

I thought it was very generous of uncle Henry to sponsor the childrens rides etc.

It was a pleasant visit but a few hours was enough. Not a patch on Brands.

Well I had GREAT weekend.

Sure, not everything is perfect. How many of the whingers were there on Friday to help set up, man the gates on Saturday and Sunday and help take down on Monday???

Like any Club, it's what YOU put into it.

If you feel that strongly about it, there are annual elections for the Board.....

Feedback to Porsche Club HQ please!!

I had a couple of clients along on Sunday (not Porsche owners....) who thoroughly enjoyed the event and their kids enjoyed the fairground -thanx Henry!!

I agree with Melv & Diver. I had a great weekend. The region /register parking did let things down and hopefully some lessons will be learned. But it did'nt spoil a great event. I thought Porsche should be praised for putting so much into the event. I enjoyed the Porsche display and Cayenne experience.
