I think that behaviour is not only outrageous, but possibly illegal. Surely a contract is a contract once agreed and can't be changed on a whim once one party is in a position they can't move? Isn't this the same as upping the price on a house by a few thousand hours before exchanging contracts?

Anyway, what can be done to avoid this?

a) That the car is inspected by the OPC for the work that is needed & you then get the work done and return - removing their argument for money needed to be spent on it.
b) You have the front resprayed and windscreen replaced and the whole thing polished and sparkling so they see it with a first impression of "wow" and can't find much (of value) that needs doing.
c) You get them to agree, in writing, that they will give you XYZ price when you trade it in and will not bump the figures.

I'm veering towards (b) myself.

PS. 26k on a 2 year old car... that's not a lot is it???

yikes

Don't tell me that's what you've lost!!

I hope Pikey is refering to the mileage rather than a financial loss.

If he is talking cash I am off to throw myself under a bus

Think you should go for the double. Pop along to DucatiGary's latest post and have a butchers at the black 997tt. Have a feeling you might need the bathroom again

Keep the Turbo slot, take the old car to a good independent who will work on lower margins (are you anywhere near Henry) and still complain to Reading !

The car is now gone , so sadly a bit late for me to try and get it back... Its advertised on the dealer website as I type...
This all started after the car had been dropped off at the OPC.!

I had covered 27,500 miles in the car, most of it using it too its potential in France, the swiss Alps and also enjoying Lemans for the past few years, so I'm not killing myself over the mileage. Compared to the majority on the OPC network they have done 9-16K, thus my suggestion that mine was of a higher mileage.

As I have said, its not really the monies, but they way its been done.

only thing to really look forward to/dread is what they will do when I come to collect the new one!?

Dread? Bollox to them. Let the dealer principal know in writing you'll be buying your Porsches elsewhere in future and enjoy your new car.

To make you feel better, I dropped £12,000 on a Ferrari 355 in about half that time, and I only added 1500 miles.
Yes, but 1500 miles would be about half the car's expected life.

Some people are so unkind. I bet he said he loved you, would be your bestest pal for ever and what does he do? drops you when you are no longer needed.

You know what, I bet he has found himself a new friend with an RS?

It needed neither tyres(new only 4 weeks ago) or half of the respray work they have suggested. They want to also do the wing mirrors. When someone comes to purchase it and sees its mileage I wouldn't think that they would expect it to be in a brand new state.

To be fair the trade in value is really not my main issue, it is the way they have turned the deal.

OPC will respray any panel with 3 or more stone chips and rip you off accordingly come PX. Thus if I was buying a used car from them, I know the huge margin thye have in it and would insist any stone chips or scuffs were taken out of panels/mirrors as a condition of sale and the car was near to new externally. Cosmetically at least OPC cars are a very high std.

I am still shocked you are being so reasonable about this and that you parted with any money over the contracted and agreed sums. I fear it was much easier to stand you ground at the time than try to insist on your money back now that the robbing barstewards have got it.

Stand your ground!

I was sales manager at two dealerships (not Porsche) in the last 5 years.
I never went back on a valuation (even verbal) even when the customer hid defects from me. My job was to pick it up and if I didn't it was me not being on the ball. I (the dealership) often had to take knocks because of sales people making promises to customers. These were handled internally and the sales person's salary usually took the brunt.

Speak to the dealer principal immediately. Remember: The customer is always right.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
