I agree - seriously - if you can genuinely get £27K from a dealer for a six year old 3.4 Tip 996 with over 50K miles - go for it - that seems like a reasonable deal.

I went to look at a 2004 GT3 at an OPC two weeks ago. A really lovely 5,000 mile car that drove beautifully, I decided I was ready to do a deal on my Zanzibar MK1 (if they didn't attempt to shaft me)
My car has FSH (last serviced 4,000 miles ago), OP Warranty (just for aceparts benefit that one ) 38,000 miles, recent new tyres all round and more recently still, new front brake discs and pads. Factory supplied Carbon Fibre bucket seats and small CF interior pack.

After a few deep intakes of breath they made a bid on the car. Their figure ?......................£28K.
Their reasoning ? "well Zanzibar is a trickly colour to shift and it'll most likely need £5K spending on it when we put it through the workshop and we'd have to put a warranty on it"................... Really ? I replied, well how about we put it through the workshop right now and let's seee you find bills for £5K. To which he replied "erm errrr we'd have to trade the car it's not something we'd want to retail" ..............yea right, see you.....

But then again a certain well known independant [cough mode on] Ca**une [cough mode off] offered me £30k for my immaculate 993 RS a week before I sold it privately for close to £42K................................... Robbing C*ck S*cking Cowboys the vast majority of them shootshoot

A couple of years back I had an 8 month old Gt3 with 2600 miles on the clock for sale that cost 74k new..local OPC that i bought it from bid 61k for it while having the identical car on their forecourt 18 months old with 12k on the clock for 69k...Theirs was stonechipped and dirty and mine was like new...sales guy reckoned my lack of roll cage was the problem..they are all tossers therefore i only buy and sell privately now coz ive heard too many excuses.ranting

Whilst we are on the subject of GT3's, I heard a funny story recently.

The GT3 RS came as standard without aircon (I believe this was an option) the idea specfically designed for those who wanted a standard car as stripped out as possbile.

Needless to say a punter spec's the car without air on the advice of the OPC salesman.

What did he get told when coming to trade the car in a year later? you have guessed it - low bid beacuse the car doesn't have air con!!!

versuv they are shocking!

mate of mine fully loaded his C4s apart from the Sat nav (with their advice as well as it is 'shite' and the tom tom is better - quote¬!) and off he went...

goes to trade it in 14 months later, the SAME sales robber goes....so where is the sat nav? no good to us mate! he has lost 24k in that time

he cried naturally....then booted the salesman in the buts and drove over him! rightly deserved!

The other bit that got me was this.

I asked why he was bidding so low when he was obviously making a a decent profit on the GT3, so surely he could make a bit less on mine to get a deal done and shift some metal.

"Oh no, sir, I've only got £1800 profit in the GT3." This on a £60k car!!

What utter cock rot.

This salesman chappie did he:

a) perhaps assume you were born yesterday?

b) have the appearance of a small wooden boy whose nose grew progressively longer everytime he spun one of those lines?

But lets forget all that - what was the spec/price/colour combo of the jallopy you were interested in? Did an OPC search earlier, could only find the white RS in London but over the other side of town from you

I'd rather not say to avoid naming and shaming - which isn't cricket.

Clearly though I was born yesterday though...

OK, right then. Who's got a Glass's Guide.

2000 Carrera 2 Tip S 54k miles.

On a V it books at 26375 at 32k
on a W it books at 27050 at 32k

Mileage isn't adjusted on these in Glass's as they envisage the car doing much less than average mileage (as an example a 3 series BMW is expected to have done 63k on a 2000 W).

TBH £24k sounds like good money to me for a car thats done 169% book mileage.

Best wishes,
Swiss Toni

Some shockingly low offers from dealers being mentioned - £28k on the GT3 MK1 and £41k on the GT2 notable. It's stuff like this that means I always try to buy/sell my cars privately and cut out the greedy middlemen. Selling seems to get harder each year though as many buyers are scared to buy dear'ish cars privately and would rather get shafted by their local stealer instead.

In saying all that, I got a decent bid on my RS6 against a competitively priced GT3 Mk2 recently, from a Lexus dealer of all places. After rejecting their initial offer of £31k for my car, and a second offer of £33k, we settled on what I asked for - £35k. So only cost £19k to changeover (they were asking £54k for GT3).

Vesuvius, how much is the OPC dealer asking for the GT3?

P.S. Anyone want to buy my Noble M400? Cheaper than from a stealer.

Aye, seem to remember advising you not to quick sell for £37,500 at the time and suggested you aim slightly higher than the 40k mark, so it's nice to know that some independents do have your wallet in mind for the right reasons, eh slippy?

some Porsche buyers are though - see above for the guy who did not spec his GT3RS with the NO COST option of aircon, or the C4S buyer who thought PCM did not matter in a road-based 911

some truly shocking OPC figures quoted here though!

weight loss, the air con adds alot to this and if your after a track weapon you dont need air con, thats probbably why it wasnt specced, I would have done the same if I wanted a track weapon.
