Ok, quick straw poll before i go off on holiday for two weeks.

Do i:

(a) keep my beautiful midnight blue 993 and spend £3k on it, like a full M030 kit, or Bilstein HD's with M033 springs, RS geometry, and HIDs, and maybe a pair of buckets and harnesses, and some paint, or

(b) buy a Morgan Aero 8 (at £15k more than the 993 is worth), or

(c) buy an Ultima GTR (at £10k more than the 993 is worth)

You see the Morgan and Ultima would be toys, but i currently use the 993 every day (and love it).

HELP!!!

(a) is out of the question

An Ultima would seem more "special" to me, if it was going to do duty just as an evenings and weekend toy. I'm sure the Aero 8 is very capable and a hoot to drive - but I struggle to get beyond the Clarence the Cross-eyed Lion look!

Well I am going through exactely the same thing at the moment with my 993 which is also used every day, I have allways wanted a 355 spider but would have to sell the daily 993 to buy a toy for weekends but would have to drive a box or something duller than the 993 every day tough one ?

How about the aero 8 and a cheaper 964 to use every day ?

Sorry thats about all I can come up with !!

There's nothing stopping me using my 10 year old 540 Touring as a daily driver - i do 24 miles every day up and down the same stretch of dual carriageway.
Work at one end, gym at the other end, home in between

VS, I would try a Mog or Ultima for a while to see how you get along.....we all know you will be back with a 993 before too long

Although the 2 remaining cars are toys, they both suit summer motoring...Mog with the roof down and as for the Ultima, how much fun is a big BHP lightweight car on UK roads in winter?

I would be inclined to hang on to the 993 for now and try one of the others in the new year, that way you could get to enjoy the whole summer in your new toy.

Not the Morgan, and I think you have to get the Ultima out of your system - then you can come back to a 993 and be happy

I have the same dilema with a Volvo 850r and two landrovers on the drive, however I somehow allways have excuse to take the 993 !!!!

However if you want a new toy has to be the morgan just so diferent and not plastic !!

Ducks and runs for cover !!

If i keep the 993 i will continue to drive it every day - my previous 3 993's all got me through winters (snow and all!) so this one shouldn't be any different.

If i get the Ultima i know i will use the 540 for work, because the Ultima is such a pain to get into and out of! And it's noisy in the cabin...

If i get the Aero 8 i want to say i will use the 540 every day, but the Aero is very quick, very comfy, and very civilised (air con, soft top, huge torque, comfortable). I'm worried that i will decimate its value by piling miles on it.

The difficulty i have is that i like driving the 993 every day, and it keeps reminding me how eminently practical it is. It can be a 3 seater when required, it can take a weekly shop, it can take my mountain bikes on the roof (or 31" tyres for the off roader!), it's the most reliable car i've ever had (in 60k miles of 993 driving, the only breakdown i've ever had was a thrown alternator belt on my 993tt), and it's subtle enough to slide by unnoticed most of the time (i'm quite self conscious and the Ultima and Morgan are both rather conspicuous).

If you change the suspension, you may want to look at a KW Variant 3 kit. Its a bit less than PSS9 and for me performs as well if not better with a better ride quality on the road.

Sort the 993 - New MO30 and RS wishbones changed mine enormously - have a look / go if you like, I'm not far from you - and then buy something really silly like a Caterham or bike engined Westie for Sundy morning blasts. I looked at the latter a few months ago but decided it was just plain bonkers and got a 944t instead

If you sell the 993 you know exactly what will happen.

Aero 8 every time. Absolutely loved mine, and only sold when the babe arrived.

You need to accept compromised practicality, and yes you get looked at more, but other than that great machine. Parking it for long periods in the rain also prompts leaks unless you use a rain cover as well.

I've sold my 993 for some tempting toys 2 times in the past. First sold for a tricked up Elise, couldn't stand it and went back to a 993. I then sold that 993 for a Noble M12. I am now back in a 993.

Definitely buy a toy if that's what you fancy, but I bet you'll be back in a 993 before long hehe

Having been in your car though mate - it's a bloody healthy example, it'd be a shame to sell up, have a toy for a few months and then realise you need another 993 and not be able to find one quite as good as your current car....

You could do what I'm doing - slowly modifying the car bit by bit to be purer and more hardcore... the aim to be toy-like enough to be great fun on track, but still enjoyable at weekends on the road. What does £15k at Ruf get you??? scratchchin

We all know VS. He'll ignore any advice, sell the 993, but something else lairy, sell that 2 months later and get another 993

Why not sell the 993 and buy a 993 RS as your toy, and continue using the Beemer for the commute?

What i'd really like is a lhd 993rs as a daily driver, and an Ultima Can Am as a toy - anyone got £50k they can lend me?

Lost me. What on earth is wrong or bad about having a 993RS and using it everyday? Its the 2nd best Porsche ever made! I worship that car!

Now if you had put the RS in your original straw poll you would have got a different answer

Don't think the RS is worth the money if you're putting lots of miles on it because you'll kill the resale value. An equivalent lhd RS to a nice tidy lhd C2 of similar age and mileage and condition, you're talking about £20k+ difference, and an RS is also £10k more than the Aero or Ultima i am looking at.

Am looking at suspension options on Gert's site as we speak...
