I was just wondering if there were any tell-tale signs that the geometry needs doing on a 996?

OK, I'm talking from experience of a pre-war 993, but I'm sure that similar symptoms would manifest themselves on your modern chariot. The tyre wear bit is pretty obvious, but a lot can be determined from the way the car feels.

I noticed with mine that when one side of the drive train passed over a surface with different grip characteristics the car would deviate off line, e.g. a slight veer when one front or rear rear wheel went over a drain cover or slippy leaves while the other side was firmly planted on tarmac. Thorough geometry set up sorted it out.

And it wasn't the offset weight of the horsebrasses because they're fixed centrally on the oak beam supporting the windscreen.

Look.

If your all going to start singing about processed frozen food - im afraid that just not my scene hehe

If on the other hand, its an excuse for gratuatuous 911 driving away from speed cameras [and speed limits?] then it does sound more appealling... although im not wearing an eye patch.

fidgits, if you do need your geometry alignment sorting, I can wholeheartedly recommend Chris Franklin at center gravity. He has a top-of-the-range mobile alignment rig and has done a lot of work for S2000 owners through a board on which I moderate. He was originally recommended by a former S2000-owner who defected to the darkside and now drives a Boxster, and Chris himself drives an older shape 911, so he's familiar with the car.

He's an absolutely top bloke with such a passion for cars. He is also very keen to educate owners so he positively encourages you to get under the car with him while it's up on the rig and watch what he's doing.

He lives in the East Midlands but is mobile, so he can come to you (subject to you being able to find somewhere with enough room for his rig!)

www.centergravity.co.uk/

(Just for the avoidance of doubt, I have no connection with Chris other than having been hugely impressed by him when he did the geometry on my recently-departed S2000 earlier in the year)

What does he charge lurky?

Lurky?! biglaugh

Not sure, to be honest. When I had mine done, it was part of a group of 5 S2000s who had block-booked him for the day. Seem to remember we paid £60-70 each - it was certainly cheaper than taking it to a dealer, anyway.

I suspect though that Chris might have been doing that on a bit of a loss-leader basis and his standard daily rate may be higher. I also don't know how much more expensive it works out to have just one car done.

He's a really friendly guy with a real passion for cars, especially Porsches, so he'll be quite happy to have a chat with you about pricing and what he can do. Either drop him a line by e-mail or call him - details are in the link I posted.

And tell him Mark Turner/Lurking Lawyer from s2ki.com sent you!
