Only thing about the Targa I don't like much is the standard wheel fitment. IIRC the wheels are special lightweight jobbies to counteract the increased weight (and higher CofG) caused by the glass targa roof, so it wouldn't pay to swap to other OEM 993 wheels.

However the Carrera 2002 wheel (996 fitment, 18" 5 spoke classic design) is, IIRC, not only lighter than the other 993 wheels but on a par with the Targa wheel.

That's EXACTLY the plan once the kitty is replenished, cyberface. Gmund Cars had a silver 993 with them fitted a few months back - it looked very nice.

I really like the 02 Carrera wheels. I'm not wild about the Targa wheels (although I don't hate them either) but I'm not keen on putting 18s on that are going to weigh more and run the risk of interfering with the handling and ride.

Good stuff! I've got some on mine for summer use and they look fab. The original Porsche advice is for early cars to be fitted with a steering rack brace (cheap) when using 18" wheels - I have done this for peace of mind, however given that the 02 Carrera wheels are way lighter than the original 17s, it may not make a difference

It was only on early cars where a steering support brace was a suggested fitment if going for 18"s........the targas are late enough, that fitting 18"s shouldn't be a problem...I wouldn't worry about fitting the larger wheels and an effect it may have on your handling, the condition or life left in your shocks will have much greater relevence.

Hi Mr Lurking Lawyer

So you've seen the light, the 993 will soon make you understand why porsche is one of the best car makers in the world.

The 993 not really my thing, but it's a cracking car and I'm sure you'll love it.

That was going to be my next question - although I assumed that since it's a 97 car, and so after the period when Porsche didn't recommend 18s on 993s, that it wouldn't be a problem.

I know the rear dampers have been replaced although I'm not sure about the front. Fingers crossed for that lottery win so I can replace the lot with some Bilsteins

Bumcrack - it was only ever a question of when, rather than if, I got a Porsche. So far, it seems like it was worth the wait!

Well finally at last!! Well done and welcome to the dark side!. I remeber you from the s2ki site!! lovely car LL woogie and fieldl are on here as well as they have all succumbed as well!! P.S. less of the 996 bashing please the 993 is a beautiful car but I have to disagree that the 996 is any less easy on the eyes!

It's all friendly banter, Ron! You 996 boys tease us 993 owners with beard, real ale and horse brass taunts. We return the favour by reminding you that your cars are now worth less than a bag of smarties and a bottle of Coke, and that your seals leak more oil than the Saudis can pump in one day biglaugh

Personally, I prefer the look of the 993 but I love ALL 911s and could have been quite happy with a 996.

the horse brass beard sandals etc came from months of abuse from the 993 owners whenever anyone posted anything to do with a 996.

as an example

"what PSI for 996 C4?"

first 18 replies where 993 owners making RMS gags or somthing to do with it being wet, that was until around 3-4 of the rgular 993 owners had RMS themselves

The horesbrass, beard and sandal 993 owners don't really exist. A typical 993 owner appreciates the merits of modern technology but is not taken in by the "newer is always better" argument. For example I (we) see (hear?) the merits of MP3s and CDs in terms of convenience but ultimately recognise that vinyl is preferable. Similarly, the ease of use of a hover mower is not lost on us but we know that a cylinder mover gives a finer cut.

In view of the above I request that in future we are refered to as the "vinyl listening and cylinder mower" brigade.

Thank you

Are you sure? Always been led to believe the Targa wheels to be one of the heaviest fitted to the 993. Lightest being 17" Cup 2s followed by 18" hollow spokes.

Nice car Mark.

I have the 18 inch Carerra's on my 996, i think they would finish off your 993 perfectly. (no i wont swap them).

So thats Woogie, Radron, Fieldl, Bumcrack, Yourself, &me ..... you reckon we should have an ex-S2000 owners meet ?.

R.

ps - stop posting here and go and polish that car.

Oh yes. Oh dearie me yes. Yes yes yes. Really, pretty pictures don't get any much prettier than that. You could put a naked pop star with a name starting with 'B' in that picture than it wouldn't improve it.

Oli.

Congratulations! Beautiful looking car, hope you get as much pleasure from it as we're getting from ours. I don't think you'll regret going for the Targa, always feels nice and airy inside no matter what the weather. driving
