Another one joins the folds imminently! baptistsan from s2ki just flogged his car and is about to take delivery of an 02 996 once the sale proceeds clear.

Of course, the rest of you are just sheep, following the herd (flock?) and buying 996s evil

He was all set to make the leap until recently. He had earmarked £30K of his "fighting fund" originally set up to buy a place with a carp pool in France and was on the look out for a black 996.

Unfortunately, he hasn't been very well of late so he has had a chance of priorities and has stuck the £30K into premium bonds. I'll work on him once things have settled down and he's on the up and up again....

Totally love your Targa. Probably because it's pretty much identical to mine! I got mine in April and it's just been the best car I've ever owned. I use it every day and enjoy it every time I see it and get in it. Mine's a Tip though, but I make no excuses - there's alot of traffic around here but I can still play when I want to. Top choice mate!

The wheel issue is one that troubles me though as I'd like to swap to a set of sport design 18" but I read somewhere in a PCGB forum that 18" wheels were specifically advised against by the factory in a bulletin about Targa's. I'll have a hunt around and see if I can find it, but the news put paid to my plan to get a set. I don't believe they do them in 17" and haven't seen a similar design produced by another manufacturer in the right size

Hi Pete,
Yes, still enjoying the car, just not using it as much as I'd like. My wife still isn't keen (don't know if it's the acceleration or her being so near the floor, lol) but she wants to go to a dog show in stafford on Saturday...so guess what we're taking? I'm quietly running out of reasons to go out on my own so I'm going to have to get my thinking cap on so that I can carry on driving it (relatively) guilt free. Matthew's still delighted with it although an aquaintance of his offered him his 996 last month for the same price so he was a little put out. It's a really nice car, one owner from new and no expense spared, but as it's a manual it would have been no good for me. Anyway, I still prefer the shape of the 993 and I have enough trouble getting the wife to go out in a silver Porsche, there's NO WAY she'd be happy in a bright yellow one, lol. Matthew's had the front end painted to get rid of the stone chips. Did a really good job, blended in nicely. There's a 1/4 inch spot of rust around the windscreen rubber so that's the next job, shame the screen's got to come out. He's put Turbo rear indicators on and clear fronts and sides so it's looking good. He's still on about wheels so maybe that's Christmas sorted. The only thing I don't like is the vinyl on the back seats, I'm going to have to get that sorted. I really don't know why they didn't put a full leather interior as standard...especially at that price! Thanks again for all your help when we were looking to buy. Nice website you've got btw!

Lovely, lovely, lovely.

WHY anyone could prefer the looks of the 996 to those of the 993 is beyond me. That has to be one of the prettiest cars Porsche has ever built, IMHO. (Although I'd have it in dark blue. Probably.)

Oli.

Agree, the 996 styling is an acquired taste. The only one I sort of like for its looks is the 4S. No comparison to the 993 though

can't see it , I think the 996 is much prettier than a 993 , everyone has their own opinions though.

Agree with Woogie but then I am biased! Does this mean that I am a trend setter?

On another note do you guys have a porsche warranty or other? mine runs out in dec its a non porsche one from Cridfords. What should I do? Am tempted to get nothing as when the S engine popped the warranty didnt fix it so I think just taking a 4k rebuild on the chin may be a better option if its only every 3 - 4 years or whatever? Any thoughts? Will cost about 1k to get a porker one plus the bits I ned to fix before they give me one. Also one of my friends has had a porker for about 25 years rebuilt a burnt out carrera 3. He uses a guy in se london called pat who rebuilds porkers and lambos and has done all the time he has owned the car and he swears blind that he is a better option than the porker garage for continued servicing. I have a dilemma as my car is now 55k but hasd full OPCSH. Do I go over to the Indy market now or stay with Porsche servicing?

I had a cridfords warranty too (got the car in cridfords a year ago).. the more I looked into the warranty the less it fared against the Porsche one. I'd recommend OPC warranty if you bare in mind that it's so comprehensive , it'll look after an awful lot of the niggly little stuff that can go wrong .. Basically what you're doing is keeping the car to OPC forecourt standard ,with the added advantage of very little worry that a big bill is going to land on your doorstep , and if you sell privately you'll be offering the same warranty that an OPC sold car will offer... Lots to think about...

The Carrera 3.0 was an impact bumper car made in 76/77 as was very similar to the SC which replaced it.

For some rebuild pics take a look at:
