I'm sure there are no bugs of any description whatsoever in your house!!!

Anyone want to buy a nice 996 while it's still worth more than the equivalent Dinky toy? weeping

I made my choice between my RS, a 93 tt, a 96 GT3 and a 96 tt so it's not as if I'm blinkered to the no H2O world.

What he means of course is that he liked the GT3 and 996TT, i scared the cr4p out of him in my 993tt, and the RS is just so pretty when it's shiny and clean lick

where's the handbag smiley?

Well I have a 993 RS and I am big fan of the 993 in general. However, I had a drive of my brother's facelift 2003 996 C2 at the weekend on country roads and I really liked it. The ride and handling were good. The stearing was meatier than I expected. The engine was lovely, nice and torquey. The brakes were good. Nice clutch. Lovely gear change, possibly too light and not quite mechanical enough but it suited the car.

So all in all, I aint gonna be slagging off the 996. I came to the conclusion that you need a 993 (preferably an RS!!) for the weekend and a 996 for weekdays. Simple.

I've driven a few 996's now (3.4, 3.6, C2, C4S, TT, GT3) and found them all really very pleasant to drive, but the only one that made me emotional (like a 993 does) was the GT3...
and no, i'm not planning a sex change, etc.

The 996 probably is '911 Lite'

That suits some people, not others.

Heh, we needed a 996 owner to come up with that one - if I had said it there'd be fighting

Basically the 996 is bigger than the 993. Are you a fat bastard? hehe

Erm, I'll let someone else who's met me tell you if I'm fat, but there are four of us.

My shaver isn't as dangerous as a cut throat, probably doesn't shave as well, but that suits me. How's that for an analogy?

Well I'll be doing a 250 mile round trip in a day, once a week for work , so any 993 owners past & present advise if it's comfortable on that mileage ? I'm sure the 996 would do it with ease, from the short drive I had.

Didn't mention anything about anyone being short did I??? nono How d'ya know that I'm not 4 foot 10 in my special shoes? hehe

Just maybe that you may choose the 996 if the 993 is too snug. This also applies to those with larger kids, I wouldn't want to get 2 teenagers in the back of a 993, whereas the 996 may work.

Personally I think the whole point of the 911 is a small car with a big engine, and it should be great fun on B roads. The 996 and 997 have got wider to the point of not being as wieldy. That's my simpleton take on the difference. If I want a spacious, practical car then I'll use my sensible saloon hehe

Not so worried about space, as I'll be in car on my own 99% of time. Missus has the sensible car Just wanted to make sure ride quality, seat support etc were up to that mileage in one day, without crippling me I still have to function at the end of the drive ..lol

Pixalo, the 993C2 I had before my current one I was using as a daily driver and would often drive to Manchester and back in a day (circa 400 mile round trip). I put about 25,000 miles on the car (from about 60 to 80-ishK. And it performed faultlessly. Kept it properly maintained. Went through tyres, consumables etc as you'd expect. But no hesitation this is a car you can use as a daily driver in pretty much all conditions. It was also LHD and after 2 years use and with the mileage - about £2K depreciation. My current 993C2S is much more cossetted. And odd as it seems I feel that as there are less and less good 993's I feel responsible to take particular care with the one I have. That's one of the reasons that I am looking to change to a 996 which will still be rewarding but I can treat as a day to day car.

Not sure if anyone agrees with this logic, but kinda makes sense to me wobble

Demand is driving the prices north on 993's
I was talking to a very reputable specialist when i was thinking along the lines of a 996, having just owned a daft 965 Turbo 2 fancied something a bit more useable, anyway the specialist who i won't mention claimed he used to sell the 996 but informed me that a high percentage were returned under warrenty with all sorts of daft problems and then the odd engine failure at 50-60k.
If he was selling 996's now it would only be Turbo's or GT models.

However the 996 is easy to drive and goes well (Bit like most modern sports cars) The 993 is back to the old school Raw 911 experience which in my mind a bit more intoxicating, also a lot more rare and sought after.

Going back to my original comments regarding wanting something more useable, ended up with another daft 911 and a bloody soft top. Bloody hypacrit if there ever was one!

No worries with 250 miles, but if you're doing it regularly then go easy on sports exhausts and hard suspension. The standard car is comfortable, but standard 993s seem to scream at me to modify them to be more characterful

In other words, don't get a Fabspeed Supercup exhaust for long journeys. I did 300-odd miles from Kent to Ninemeister's place in Warrington with Supercups and I got out of the car feeling like I'd been locked inside one of those enormous bass bins found in large clubs

Every 993 I've been in has had different seats - there are a few variations available - however they are all comfortable and supportive for long journeys. I've done Verbier to Sevenoaks in one hit with only the driving being the tiring factor, no need to stretch legs regularly etc. It's got a good driving position.

However, given the rest of the advances, I'd fully expect the 996 to be as good, if not better, in this respect.
