There is one fundemental point though.
The dash board will last, ugly or not bit like the car, the majority of the components were put together by craftsman who took pride in the brand, not robots, but there you go thats progress. Latest built to a cost and it shows in resale values and quality.

rofl are you a salesman for 993's !!!!

Crikey

If its any help I love my 996. Thats about all there is to say. Im guessing that if I'd bought a 993 I'd love that too.

Buy one and enjoy thats the point! If depreciation is the key concern then buy a flat instead.

Cheers Vroom Vroom!

I just had a dealer ask me if I would accept 27K for my 996 cab tip 98 with 55k on the clock. Not sure if that helps settle some minds.

Well said mate.

When all is said and done, these cars, 993 and 996, are the evolution of possibly the best sports car made.

The 993 the pinaccle of air cooled engineering, with 12 spark plugs, aerodynamic bodywork, climate control and demisting systems that actually work, yet with the charm and character of the original 911 dash. Yes the pedals are badly offset (on RHD cars). Yes the car isn't child friendly (although I haven't seen anyone buy one off me claiming they ned to put kids in the back!!).

However, the 996 is an evolution of the 991 blueprint. But this time started on a clean sheet of paper.

Improvements have been made, but to some peoples mind character lost...

However, I've had a SWB 1968 911, a high spec 1989 911 Carrera 3.2 (don't talk about cluttered dash until you've had one with sunroof, climate, elec mirrors, headlight wash, rear wipe, imtermittent wipe, tempostat cruise control, and so on! The engineers evidently could not fit it all in, so little fiddly flick switches appeared all over the nice previously uncluttered dash!!)

And then 996 has got a modern dash. A modern quiet engine, and more space, and safer handling, and less servicing costs, and the list goes on...

I hope to own a 996 and 997 in the years to come, and then after them, the NEXT generation.

If there's a point to this, I feel it is that you should try to own one of them all at some point!

AD.

Sorry forgot to put in that I'm now driving a 993 C2.

A genuine car that I bought into stock at £16000.

Suspension is a little tired - I'll sort that soon.

But what a car!

We have Boxsters 99 - 04 in stock and I like the modern feel of them compared to the 993.

If a 996 is better I'm getting one!!

Where can you get 993 C2's for £16,000 - is this at auction or a bad deal on a p/ex??

I had a 993 (C2) for six years. Now been in a GT3 for nigh on 2 years.

The GT3 has awesome feedback, is faster, better in every respect and i love it.

But love's a curious thing but the 993 was more loveable and more loved. It had somet about it that made it feel that way, quirky, more part of you, that made you feel more part of it. Made to old values, like you were somehow cheating the system by having a modernish car but one that was old school. Maybe i'm talking rubbish cos my sister's old 3.2 carrera had loveability more than my 993. For me the new cars, as great as they are, miss out on that. Maybe they're "too good" but of course it has to be that way for Porsche to prosper.
