For those of you that have confirmed delivery dates (or indeed seen your cars physically) when did you actually place the order for them?
When did your letter of intent get pushed through their doors?

Geneve - have you gone for the standard suede steering wheel or the smooth leather no cost option?
I was at the official opening of the PC Bolton on Thursday night and spent a while sat in the orange GT3 RS (LHD) they had.
The suede covering on the handbrake and gear knob was ok but the steering wheel suede seemed a bit naff. I know it's supposed to increase grip but i'm still undecided.
Has anyone else specced a different steering wheel cover?

Edited to say - them bucket seats are fecking superb

I've known my OPC for many years and they are normally very good. Submitted my letter of intent in January, checked out the car in Geneva in March, took advice on suitability, spec, etc from Chris Harris, Geoff Turral, Andreas Preuninger, confirmed the ordered in April, spec'd it in May.

Mine has the alcantara s/w and alcantara/leather sports seats.

I'm hoping the s/w will be fine. I have a suede Momo on my Caterham and it does feel a bit manky when my hands get sweaty. Fortunately the Caterham has a Racetech quick release boss, so I can change it for a leather Momo in a few seconds.

The lwt bucket seats are fantastic (once you're in them) and do add to the specialness of the GT3. For track use they will have a big advantage. However, I went for the Sports seats because:
- £3000 cheaper
- Easier to get in/out
- More adjustability
- Better rear access
- Heat option
- Still provide good comfort and support (with a g-lock)
- Can always retro-fit buckets if necessary

I'll report back when I've put a few miles on it.

See, this just doesn't make any sense and convinces me that not all's as it should be.

So you give a letter of intent this January and get your car now? I put my letter of intent in April 2004 and I don't get my car until next year - something's really not right here...I wish to god that Porsche would sort their shit out and ensure orders are met by date of request.

Meanwhile, congratulations on your car

I'll pick mine up on Thursday - and the weather's looking good for a week or so

I think deliveries were dependent upon timing (orders with deposits) and dealer allocation. My OPC only have one GT3 this year, the next one being built in Jan for the group's owner.

FYI, GT3 only comes with black tail pipes, only available with Michelin Sport Cups (latest compound/generation), and the supplied 'set up' is described as 'track'.

Congrats Mike, you MUST post some pictures of the beast, with regards to the tyres I was told by Porsche Hq that they will not supply standard N rated tyres for the GT3 as it is only Homologated for the special cup tyres, so there would be insurance issues if you swapped them, I would be interested to know what Lovettes say "officially" on the subject, let me know?

Grant,

Homologation and Type Approval are different.

Lovetts simply said that Porsche are not recommending an alternative tyre, although it is up to me if I want to try something else. They said that Michelin Pilots and Bridgestone Potenzas were available in the correct sizes and N spec, but suggested that the geometry is probably set up to specifically suit the MSCs.

They recommended I try the MSCs and see if I like them before considering a change.

Chris Harris had said that Preuninger wanted the MSCs to be the only option on the GT3, but had begrudgingly admited that there was a road spec alternative, although this doesn't appear to have materialised.

Homologation and Type Approval are different.

Appreciate what you are saying, but they aren't really, homologation does mean to register (a specific make of automobile in general production) so as to make it eligible for international racing competition, but it also means to "approve, confirm or ratify"..alla type approval.
But getting the right technical term aside, if the car hasn't got "Type Approval" for other tyres, how do YOU stand on insurance should the worst happen.

The official line is..........
"Many industrial sectors are subject to some form of approval or certification system but road vehicles are a special case, because of their importance to and impact upon society, and have been subject to specific technical standards almost from their first invention.
Within Europe, two systems of type approval have been in existence for over 20 years. One is based around EC Directives and provides for the approval of whole vehicles, vehicle systems, and separate components. The other is based around ECE (United Nations) Regulations and provides for approval of vehicle systems and separate components, but not whole vehicles.
Type approval is the confirmation that production samples of a design will meet specified performance standards. The specification of the product is recorded and only that specification is approved.
Automotive EC Directives and ECE Regulations require third party approval - testing, certification and production conformity assessment by an independent body. Each Member State is required to appoint an Approval Authority to issue the approvals and a Technical Service to carry out the testing to the Directives and Regulations. An approval issued by one Authority will be accepted in all the Member States."

Anyone know how this works in law/insurance speak, with regards to the tyres, or are Porsche HQ just using this as an excuse to stick with the cup tyre option!
