Cooooor Richmond is the place to be........IF YOUR A CAR THIEF!!!!!!!!!!

I had the police round last night and they said that these cars are usually stolen if they can get in them. I pointed out the security bollard and that most expensive cars these days have a tracker so i would have been woken if they tried to start it. Not to mention fuse 22 is out so most of the street would have also heard it. I have forensic coming round today so maybe they might find something(unlikely). I haven't noticed any scuffs but ill have a look later.

Lots of Richmond people around here.

Be wary of identifying your locations, you never know who's looking in...and compiling a shopping list in the process.

Sorry to hear of your woes bund.

I have to say though, I'm really surprised you got any more than a crime number given that just a coat (albeit an expensive one) was stolen! Never mind forensics!! eek How did you manage that? Seriously, I didn't think they came out for car crimes any more?

Not sure i didnt even cause much of a fuss about it.

They have just been round and supposedly there is nothing for them to do. Obviously one police man hasnt told the other police man the whole story.

Did you offer them a spin round the block to get them down?

I had a BiB come round when I had the bonnet badge stolen from my 911. Apprently, theft from households and motor vehicles is high priority. The BiB inspected the vehicle, walked around the car and was about to get the finger printing team out when he realised I had washed the car since the theft. He took a full statement and was about to knock on neighbours doors when I told him not to bother as I'd already done it.

Blimey. Compare and contrast with the chap in Biker Banter who had a nearly new enduro bike worth several grand nicked out if his garage, with possible forensics. Couldn't get anybody round

I'm in Sheen and I've had sunglasses etc taken from the car a couple of times-always when I've left it open by accident.

I'm sure there are people who scour the area every night looking for cars without the tell tale red light flashing and then help themselves.

It wouldn't be too hard for the Police to catch them given a bit of effort.

The forensic people are very good-when I was burgled the girl was round dusting for prints and looking for DNA before the BiB arrived. The guy got cut coming through the window and she found the blood-he's now serving 18 months.

Most modern cars operate a CAN bus system. If you can gain access to it you can electronically "TEST" any function on the car i.e. does the boot open! The trouble is that a lot of the CAN bus connection points are easy to access as the car needs to progress smoothly down the production line i.e. Rover has one behind the front indicator (one screw to remove). Obviously, you need to know what you are doing and have acces to the right kit but it is technically possible to open a car. I've seen some after-market performance loggers that use the CAN bus to access things like rpm, road speed etc...It's not a great technical leap from one of these to accessing other functions.

Hmmm, now that IS interesting. And worrying.

Lots of blurb in the media this week about people being unable to unlock / mobilise their cars because of background frequency transmissions - could this be a related topic? Our doorbell used to chime in response to some car remotes - we changed the doorbell.

I disagree with that. I figure if someone's going to steal a luxury car to order they merely go to the affluent areas to select one. I live in a "non-affluent area" (I'm hedging my bets on this one ), and the car sticks out like a sore thumb sitting on the drive (my insurance is loaded accordingly ). I expect that every chav scrote in a 5 mile radius knows about it.. but it's the professional thief that would make a proper attempt to steal it, but then it's so well known and the neighbours are so eagle-eyed that I think it would be far more difficult to steal unnoticed than in an area where there are lots.

I agree but if someone is smart enough to do this then they probably wouldn't bother nicking coats and sunglasses. Why not disable the immobilisor and take the whole car?

A guy I work with has had his 4x4 broken into a few times now - most recently 2 weeks ago - and the police have been around and checked for fingerprints etc.

No sign of entry and he swears he always locks it - lost laptop etc that was in the boot - nothing on show.

If he didn't lock it the first time I am sure you would double check if you had locked it after the first break in. There certainly seems like there maybe something in it - any update Bund? Have you spoken with Aston?

Does he drive an ML? My sister had hers broken into a few times. Apparently, if you apply force to fuel flap, the central locking is activated unlocking the car eek
