Live with a LHD for a week and youll be sold. I have had both and would now always go for LHD all otherthings remaining equal. The wife however refuses to drive them ! Which explains why I have both.

Isn't that a good excuse to opt for LHD idea

2 LHDs here too. Better choice and sales potential if I ever sell. European Market.

Big bonus is I have had zero back problems driving them. My 3.2 Carerra was RHD and I suffered after long journeys with the offset pedals.

Buy on condition and unless you have a dodgy back include RHD cars!

This years running costs 1992 964 C4. these cars are getting on and things like coils will go but obviously once you have replaced them they will probably last your ownership.

£600 4 P zero's(they seem to be made of choclate) last set lasted 8k miles

£300 Alternator fitted myself (only problem that kept me of the road for 2 days)

£70 Fan bearing done at same time as alternator it was getting rough done as a precaution

£125 ish 2 new distributer caps and 2 rotor arms

£80 2 igniton coils.

£500 service which included a few little jobs like drive shaft gators ( I supplied the oil as I get fully synth silkolene PRO S very cheap so add £100)

£1775

Car is used at least 5 days week comuting 66 miles each day and starts every time

Didnt add to above list as were not needed to keep car on road
£500 for rolling road remap not strcictly necessary and £200 for re conalising front seats.

Also
heater servo motor packed in I stripped and got working again a new one would have been £120+ vat diy
rear blower started squeeking then stopped this probably will pack in soon at around £150 +vat diy

I average 20MPG but teh roads are quiet at 5am. Dont expect to run these cars for the cost of a mondeo.

Anyone know why the majority of 964s up for sale seem to be trade?

There doesn't seem to be any difference in price between LHD or RHD either?

Any ideas, anyone?

I will have a guess.

When the first UK RHD 964 came out, a load sat around in OPC's waiting to be sold - some for up to a year simply because they were very expensive (about £50K + options). This lead to few RHD cars actually coming to the UK. In the late 90's the value of these cars dropped to relistic level and more people wanted them as they were not a scary as the early Porsches. Problem was that demand outweighted supply. Step in people like Adrian Crawford, how knows abit about Porsche's and a bloke in Germany who could source "cheap", but very well maintained LHD 964's, which Adrain could punt in the UK and make a few buck on each car sold. In many instances these cars are actually better than some ropy RHD cars that were never looked after very well, as some owners could not afford to get them serviced.

Mine is an Adrain Crawford car - imported in 2000, two owners, and a complete set of German OPC stamps - and its a cracker. Its still done less than 80,000 miles and I already have had an offer from a guy in Germany for it for £16K - I paid £12.6 3 years ago. Not so bad!! A RHD in Germany is worth bugger all, unless then intend to sell to Japan or the UK. And even the Japs want LHD.

In regards to it being a lefty - no problem - in fact driving a RHD feels a little strange - not bad, but not good either. As for toll booths, parking machines it not a big issue, a Porsche is some narrow you can either lean across, or if the worse comes to the worse, get out and walk round. Takes 30 seconds. I take you point about overtaking, however this car is so quick that unless you are a complete nutter, it still safer than 90% of RHD cars on the road.

Worse thing about being LHD I find is that small boys (between 8 and 12) or old men (60 +) tap the window and either say "nice car", "is it a Porsche", "is it fast" - bless them. No luck with the ladies however, that might because I'm a forty something minger + or the wife or my 4 years old is in the car.

Its been said before BUY THE BEST CAR YOU CAN AFFORD - CONDITION, CONDITION CONDITION and never pass up a great LDH with complete service history over some crappy RHD that last saw a garage in 2001.

Hope this helps Andy

Reading this again I do not think I actually answered the question. The question I answered was why some many LDH in the UK. DOH

Thanks Andy, did kind of answer part of the question, seems maybe Germany is levelling the LHD prices.

Just wonder why so many for sale are trade.

Don't have a problem with LHD, I've owned a LHD car for over 10 years.

Just need to find myself a nice LHD C2.

Not my cup of tea.

964 Coupe, for me, is the best looking 911.

For me, the early 911's (from the original to the 964) dont look right without the big tail...

Think the 964 is so clean a shape, the wing ruins it. Otherwise, I like whale tails, spoilers and skirts.

Bad angles and colours for a comparison me thinks.

Unless you're like us you'll be looking down on the cars a little.

Can see your point though.

i did look for 2 same coloured, same angled cars (one C2, one Turbo II) but to no avail (okay i didnt look that long)...

Okay, so heres a flattering angle of the 964 rear... and I couldnt find a white 964 turbo from a similar angle, but heres a 930 SC which might help demonstrate what i mean?

Yep, that SC needs the spoiler, where I think the 964 doesn't.

Where'd you get that SC pic from, it was taken about a mile up the seafront from me?

Too tired to read the rest of this thread before I go to bed, suffice it to say that you should just go and buy one.

Bought mine in August, probably paid about 1,000 quid too much (never mind). Spent to date: 300 quid on two rear tyres, 600 quid getting a small rust patch fixed. Going for full service at Strasse tomorrow which will also factor in fixing the heater motors so expecting a four figure bill from that.

Is it cheap to run? No. Does it look and sound fcensoreding brilliant? Yes. I vacillated for ages about whether or not to buy a Boxster or a new 350z or TT on the company car scheme but very glad I didn't. 964 is always an event to drive, even on the short hops to work it has unexpectedly been forced into doing since being promoted to 'only car' status.

Suppose the only thing I would do is echo henry-f and recommend that you set aside a couple of grand each year in a trust fund for the car, you're likely to burn through a decent proportion of that every 12 months or so.

In conclusion, stop thinking about it, just go and buy one and worry about reliability when you get it home!

964 is a fantastic car, personally I think another 50 bhp would make it sensational.
