Hi all

You can buy a decent LHD 993 in Kuwait for about £10k. On the road in UK for £15k. Anyone see the catch here (other than the hassle)? Decent LHD 993's trading for about £18k private in UK? lick

Cheers
J

Assuming low mileage and a decent service history, in a decent interior/exterior combination and with a good spec seems like a good plan...
what's the catch?

seems like a lot of hassle for £3k... remembering you have shipping costs, import duty etc etc..

unless you come across a very good example at that price - or a similarly low 993TT, i cant see it being worth the hassle and to do so?

Humn I'm thinking of a gradual way to get into a TT. Buy one run it for 3 months sell it on for a £3k mark-up and only need to do 5 of them to get me into a 993TT! TT would be about low 30's on the road from Q8 bounce

Don't know about Kuwait, but in Dubai where cars are dirt cheap, you need to be a citizen to buy a new one. Probably a used one as well.

I think we have the catch right there.

Hi,

Here's a guide for import costs on a £10k car

Cost of shipping, approx £500

10,500 + 10% import duty =11550
11550 + 17.5% vat = 13571.25
ESVA test is about £180

The price sounds cheap but by the time you add up all the costs it does'nt seem worth it. Plus I bet its had a hard life in kuwait Air cooling in them temperature's!, the paint can fade too if its a dark colour.

A friend of mine lives in Dubai and has bought a similarly cheap 996.

His words of warning when I considered an import through him - people are really into new cars there. Second hand cars get little respect - and get absolutely caned, constantly. His experience was that a 2nd hand Porsche bought in the middle east will have almost certainly been driven as if it were stolen, every single day.

Get a good (and I mean very, very good) inspection. Cheap Porsche does not equal cheap repair bills.

Good advice cheers. They do seem to be exceptionally well specced out there.

Kinda fallen in love with this one http://rides.webshots.com/album/55460 - think it sold for just under £20k. smash

My uncle lives in Abu-Dhabi and runs a Maserati Cambicorsa which he bought brand new for £35k.

Also, about 15 or so years ago, my dad imported 3 new Mitsubishi Pajero's (Shoguns to us) into the UK from there, a few months before they were launched in the UK. There was enough profit in importing the three at the time to pay for a 4th one for us.

So I can vouch for cars being cheap out there.

RS badge and wheels, red calipers (not big reds though i don't think), C2S split grill and turbo front PU? Interesting combination.

Looks good though, i'll admit.
