They are different animals.
I came from a 996TT to an AMV8 & am moving to a 997GT3.

The Aston is a fabulous ownership experience, the crafted interior, the amazing looks that make you want to set up a chair in the garage, the fantastic sound of the V8 & it IS a great drivers car with great balance on the twisty stuff. I love it.

The GT3 is on another level when it comes to pure drivers cars, a lot faster more involving & interactive, a real race car for the road, but with decent manners for a daily drive.

Ultimately they are equally fabulous but in different ways, the Aston wins on looks, interior, image & Grand tourer ability, the GT3 wins on driver interaction, maximum adrenalin pump, man & machine in harmony.

You pay your money & take your choice!

Interesting,

I have a 996tt and was thinking of the GT3 or AMV8,,,

How does the GT3 compare with your 996tt? Was the AMV8 just a short stay until the GT3?

ps its not Grant as in A. Sq is it?

Careful or I'll send my brother round!!!!

SuperL...., I still have the Aston, the GT3 was ordered last April doesn't arrive until next March, but I have had two "blats" in the new GT3, one as passenger, one driving! So I can't give you the in-depth stuff on the GT3 that some of the current lucky owners can, but I can compare the two.

I am loving the Aston, it has really surprised me by getting totally under my skin, a very special automotive experience, to the extent that I wonder about taking the GT3, although I am sure I will! It is no where near as fast as the TT, but is more fun & more adjustable at lower speeds, the weight distribution is spot on & you sit in the centre of the car, it's rather like a luxury leather lined go-cart, with extra body roll! The power is well matched to the chassis & it lets the back end move slightly to great effect, it is also a great GT car. A positive image is also a plus, everyone loves an Aston, unfortunately many hate a Porsche! And I just LOVE the looks of the car (inside & out)it gives me a thrill (sad I know) every time I walk up to it!!!

But the bottom line is the GT3 IS definitely the better adrenalin pump and the better drivers car, by a large margin! The new model is amazing & where as I wouldn't have considered a 996GT3 because it was too compromised on road as a daily driver, the new PASM set up gives very similar bump absorption to the Turbo's conventional 030, as far as bumpy B roads are concerned. So you get all the benefits of that amazing high revving engine (which is even louder than the Astons!, sounds amazing) snickety short shift gear lever, fantastic rear drive chassis, with very few of the downsides, the only thing I noticed was a LOT more road noise! You must be thinking the same as me, why spend the thick end of £50k on a new 997TT which is just a step better than the 996TT when you can have a whole new automotive experience.

I don't think you can wrong with either car, it is all down to what you want next, if you are thinking of a new GT3, the wait is about a year, I thoroughly recommend the ASton experience, there are some great prices on used AMV8's, order the GT3 & get into a used Aston for a year...best of both worlds!

Have you met my wife?

There is not a cats chance in hell of getting an AM for a year and then a GT3 - she would hit the roof. Her sage accounts system and our accountant would not cope with the inputs/depreciation/trade in calculations etc.

It was hard enough getting the tt from a targa as the targa had not lost enough on depreciation as per its book price - screwed her sage system up no end.

Tell her you are the man of the house. Show her your trousers. Then get her and your wallet down the local Aston dealer. Go on - what's the worst that could happen!
