Congratulations. I made the step into the GT2 a month ago, what a superb machine, the looks are stunning and the full boost speed in unearthly. I'm givng it mucho respect though following some full on, 3rd gear, straight line (fortunately) wheelspin at "some" mph. I think i will explore the handling a little more when things warm up.

Stay safe.

Thanks for all your comments.

First "proper" outing today eekeekeekeekbouncebouncebouncebounce

At the risk of KayC saying "told you so" (which he undoubtedly will ) the 2 does feels better suited to fast road work than the 3 did.

The effortless grunt from the turbos, and the comfort seats (I know,I know ) make for a more user friendly package on todays roads, whilst retaining a large proportion of the 3s involvement.

I found myself all to aware of the large amount of grunt available when overtaking yikes and could constantly hear Simon Harrods "oops I had a moment" phrase in my head. ie the car saying "F*cking concentrate more or I'll kill you"

The Michelins on the car are far more responsive to initial steering inputs than the Pirellis on the 3, the downside in comparison to the Pirellis being that driving over "cats eyes" feels more akin to trying to drive over house bricks.

The brakes (as mentioned in Ballasts thread) are totally sh*te. And to this end the front ceramics will be shown the door within the next two weeks. Having brakes with questionable characteristics on a car like this ain't an option ! as other owners of these phenomenal cars will no doubt confirm.

Very much a horses for courses issue I appreciate, but having made the leap up to the GT2 I'd struggle to justify paying between £50 -55 k for a nice MK2 GT3 when for a tad more you can have one of these superlative (and fairly rare) machines.

Hopefully a set of steel discs on the front (and a geometry setup) will be the icing on the cake.

Glad you enjoy the new toy.

I expect on the old GT2 v GT3 debate, they're two cars design for different things. I expect the turbocharged low rpm tq of the 2 suits certain drivers. I personally prefer to sit at 8000 rpm as much as I can!

You bought the midnight blue one from Autotrader? That did a look good'un and sensibly priced. You'll not lose any money it, always a bonus. cool

Think the first gen PCCB's on GT2's were not great and if it's been tracked a bit, maybe not helped much. My GT3 Mk2 PCCB's work very well though and still as smooth as a mirror.

Is the ground clearance worse? The front overhang/splitter looks a bit deeper on the GT2. Curious to try one myself sometime but I suspect their's pros/cons to each.

yes And well worth the journey from N.Wales to "down South" at some ridiculous hour to ensure I had first "dibs" on it ! Apologies to the other parties who were scheduled to view the car the following day ! I did pay for the privilege though !

DanH on here has retired his ceramics for safe keeping and replaced them with some high quality oversized steels. Does this not strike you as a safer option than "risking" your ceramics ?
Do you track your car ? (not that cars used on the road are immune from the problem) apparently some spirited road driving can see a set off within 15,000 miles !!

I think it's an improvement over the MK1 GT3 (but the MK1 was the lowest of low cars IMO) so it's not difficult to improve on !!

You do need to try a few. Without naming and shaming, I went to view a car earlier in the year. After a 340 mile round trip I was "granted" (only after specifically requesting though) a 5 minute drive.

I didn't buy the car 'cos I had issues with the vendor (and his attitude) and the price of the car.
But more importantly because the car had something fairly fundamentally wrong with it's suspension geometry.

It was sufficient to put me off my "dream car" and point me firmly back in the direction of the wonderful MK 1 GT3 I'd looked at (and subsequently bought)

At this point I'd like to say a huge thankyou to Mike Thomas at www.mtperformance.co.uk/

Mike is a perfect gentleman, and even though we'd previously only met twice briefly, he invited me to take a test drive in the GT2 Clubsport he currently has for sale.

Big deal you may be thinking, but Mike invited me over for an hour long unaccompanied test drive.
Had I known Mike previously, maybe this would have been expected, but as mentioned we'd only met twice vey briefly prior to his most generous offer.

The hour long roadtest on my own was an absolute blast and totally re-kindled my desire for the GT2.

Mike and I subsequently tried to do a deal with my GT3 as a PX (he offered me £5k more for my car than a certain Docklands based indie rolleyes ) try him, he's a gent.

Unfortunately for Mike, whilst he was in Germany collecting the 997 GT3 he has for sale, the Midnight blue GT2 came up for sale in the AutoTrader. The rest, as they say, is history......................

I agree wholeheartedly John, revving the t*ts off a NA lump (when you're in the mood) is indeed a special experience, and if I can return to the naturally aspirated fold in a couple of years time (and keep the GT2) I'd most certainly have a 997 GT3 in the garage alongside the GT2.

My journey today took me along roads I knew well, but in places where I'd previously thought twice about safely overtaking in the GT3, the GT2 dispatched long lines of traffic with contemptuous ease without even using all the boost available !
If you haven't already tried one, I'd suggest you do so pronto

Thanks for the feedback.

No plans to box away the PCCB's as if/when they do need replaced, I'll just go back to steels (factory or Alcons, etc). But they work superbly for now and 95% of my use will be road as it's my daily driver.

Must admit, found the GT3 a bit sluggish at first from low down in comparison to Noble M400/Audi RS6 it replaced, with their more relaxing turbo torque. The flipside is not much beats revving a GT3 to the red line and feels substantially stronger at the top end compared to my Mk1 CS too.

Anyway, enjoy your new purchase. It's one of the few cars I've seen advertised that almost had me heading to the vendor sharp'ish too, with..."There's the cash, I'll take it now!".
