These Turbo bodied 996's seem to hold their value very well! It appears to be the same with the 993's.

Why is that?

Dunno. I always wondered that. Surely the C4S is slower than a C2 due to the extra mechanical friction and greater aero drag due to it being wider? It also gives (me at least) the impression of "I can't afford a turbo so I've bought one that looks a bit like a turbo". Similar IMHO, to the GT3 aero-kits and max-poweresk rear wings people add to the humble C2 or C4.

not so as you would notice really. What you do notice is that, with the lower suspension, turbo alloys and flared arches, they look 10x better than a C2 - hence their popularity. IMHO and most others it seems.

A message in your ear Diesel130. I brought my C4S without a thought at buying a turbo. When your spending around £40000 to 45000 on a porsche an extra 20% for a turbo really would'nt be a problem to most.

IMO the C4S has more visual appeal than the standard C4, I think with the 993 S's rarity comes into the equation and as such a premium may be more justified. Not a big fan of aero kits and the like but its personal preference innit.

Because hairdressers want the turbo look staring back at them from the shop windows as they're cruising up and down the high street, they want to be able to make a load of racket at the same time from a factory organ pipe but they don't want to be scared when they put the accelerator pedal down.

LOL - Or maybe it is because they are a very good looking 996. Not my cup of tea in terms of drive - but great to look at nonetheless.

o/t but nbetts, how did you find going from M3 CSL to 996 turbo? After I've sold my turbo I was thinking of getting into a CSL for a little while until 997 turbo prices come down enough.

neither deal breakers

rear wash wipe very useful in crap weather

sunroof - not bothered either way, would not spec myself due to cost but small bonus if original owner paid for one

supermono - You will miss the grunt of the 996tt - but you will enjoy the race car feel of the CSL.

Chalk and cheese as they say.

Put it this way - You are more likely to lose control of a CSL than you are a 996tt - and also you can have real fun with the handling of a CSL.

You will not be able to traverse the country as fast in the CSL as you can in a 996tt - but you might have more fun doing it.

Thanks. What I thought I guess. How about compared with the GT3?

So why on earth didn't you think about a turbo then? Same sort of running costs, much much faster, a load more fun to drive, probably a better bet depreciation wise, nicer looking, had the bite to go with its bark, etc, etc.

Supermono,i went from a gt3 to a csl to a tt,dont sell the tt for either one of those because you will be underwhelmed by their performance..get your tt ecu upgraded and have a real blast with the tt..500bhp makes a lot of fun in a tt

.. I'd have to agree with you on this SM... At the risk of getting blown out of the water , last year I'd have thought the 4S was the way to go , a year on and it'd be much lower on my list. Imho the turbo screams 'value' compared to the 4S , and there's a chance that residuals might refect that in the next year or so ...

Does the TT cost the same to run as a C4S? I thought the TT would cost alot more.

Same service intervals, same brakes, maybe the same-ish tyres. Plug change is a bit more because the intercoolers or something have to be removed. But no, I don't think they cost more.

Actually the turbos are a lot less when you factor in the C4S unscheduled RMS and replacement engine services...
