Mk1 was the last hand built Porsche.
Mk2 marginally faster.
Mk1 more raw and visceral (more mechanical, no e-Gas etc)
Mk2 better built.
Mk1 the original GT3.
Mk2 has cupholders.
Mk1 more cohesive design.
Mk2 sharper clothes/nicer headlamps.
Mk1 built in limited numbers.
Mk2 more robust gearbox.
Mk1 better feeling gearbox.
Mk2 better front brakes.
Mk1 a true homologation car.

Mk2 a better car
Mk1 a better GT3 ?

<flamesuiton>

So a MK1 with more hp than a Mk2 (or even RS), with steel synchros and gear box radiator and Alcon floating brakes must be both a better car and a better GT3 ? ;-)

Just get the RS then

For me head said Mk2, heart felt mk1 - heart won. BUT, given Im just about to spend an extraordinary amount of money getting the Mk1 to go & stop as fast as a mk2 then I agree that the Mk2 is better value at the mo.

Has mr Manthey's web caught another fly?!

Errr - Im eyeing Parr up _ :sheepishlook:

996RS not special enough imho... there's a raw intangible about the Mk1 character that isn't evident in the RS. The way an RS moves down the road = RS is a hardened roadracer (Sampras) whereas Mk1 a touch slower, but more emotive (McEnroe)...

Are Parr upgrades TUV approved? Manthey products covered with a proper warranty.

Would be interesting to see someone like Evo mag do a proper test between a standard GT3 Mk1, Mk2 and RS. Plus a few of the modified ones (Manthey, Parr, etc) also. Compare them all on road/track.

Probably be more helpful to people, than reviews from over-enthusiastic owners.

I was thinking this a few months back - an uber GT3 test including the new 997 variants would be thumbup.

Line up would be:

Mk1
Mk2
996RS
Manthey K400 Mk1
Manthey K410 Mk2
Manthey K440
7GT3
7GT3RS
Manthey 7GT3 (available yet?)

Tested back-to-back over road, short track (Bedford West?) and long track (Bedford GT/Silver/Donny/Rockingham/etc). I reckon that would be a mega issue sell out!

I once owned a GT3 Mk1. A beautiful car but the RS is far better both on the road and track

A bit like how Sampras would beat McEnroe on any given day.
