If I thought for one minute toll charging would free up space on the road or there were "gold roads" free from traffic but that were charged (as per the M6 toll road) then I`d be all for it. Sadly charging to use the current roads, and worse still charging more for busy roads ie roads we need to use is shooting fish in a barrel.

The solution is a very simple one indeed, offer an alternative to the car, either make public transport so cheap you put up with the squalor and inconvinience (thats what easy jet do), or make it so good the car is seen as a second class or lesser way to travel. At the moment the cheapest way to travel is on the road by coach, how can this be? the train should be much cheaper.

By charging everyone moans but ultimately we need to get around so we pay up. Similarly if we need to make any journeys by car we need to keep a car. We can only get rid of the car when we make so few journeys using it we rent one for the trip.

Fish, barell, shoot, suckers, we, are.

At least the french have the spirit to complain and disrupt.

I dont think we should be taxed off the road if there nothing to replace it. Same goes for fuel no point in taxing us off it if there nothing else to use.

Just take a look at this
7 day travel card in New york $24.00
3 day travel card in London £39.60

Makes you think doesnt it?
