Best time to buy ?
Discussion
Dear All,
I am new to the forum having only recently uncovered it.
Very active and packed with great advice.
When is the best time to buy in order to get the biggest choice and best price - now, or in March when the new registration comes out ?
I am looking to buy a 996 for up to £25-£30k.
I am not particularly fussed on model e.g. Coupe/Cabriolet, C2/C4 etc.
Ultimately, i want to get the best quality and best value car I can for my money so willing to be flexible.

and the guys says he wants room in the back for the kids & a quiet motorway drive....
what is it with this forum???
Someone Posts "hi, I'm looking for a nice 996 for 30k for me, the wife and kids and long lazy driver"
Beardy 1 replies "you want a 993 you want, those 996's are the work of the devil you know, always breaking, plus, forget resudiuals, you'd make money on a 993 - and its a rawer driving experience"
OP replies "thanks, I like the 993 but really want something a bit newer, say post 2000"
Beardy 2 replies "you really want a 964, as it happens i have one in the classifieds..."
Someone else replies "nah, you want a 996 GT3"
OP - " i have kids to fit in the back and dont want an old one or a GT3"
Beardy 1 says "get a 993, you'll only regret it if you dont"
TC says "get a NSX"
Almost helpful says " spend 35k and get a facelift 996!"
and so on...
It's like walking through the airport and being hounded by various cults, isn't it? That's cults btw... not c**ts. SC and 915 owners are hare-krishnas - folks out of their time, and probably out of their heads - certainly out of touch with the rest of us. I'd say 964 guys are like the born-again Christians, with the 964 RS guys as their militant wing. 993 guys are the soft-shoed and sensible, but insistent and irritating nonetheless - I'm thinking mormons. The 996 guys are no less fervent, but don't stand on tradition and are a bit more flash - so Scientologists for sure. 996 GT3 guys? Not sure - muslim fundamentalists?

what about the 997 guys? or are they the buddists, don't do anything to try and get you onboard, just give you a knowing wink as you pass surrounded by all the different factions?

Agnostics. They doubt the existence of anything, so just take up whatever cause is convenient. They're pushovers, so are unlikely to peddle anything. Most of them will be following the 998 in a couple of years.

wondered if it was aimed at me, but then figured I'm the furthest from an 'expert', or for that matter, 'knowing anything technical' as possible, and as for put downs, well I don't know any...
But then, its all down to perception isnt it
