996 about six years old? I'll bet a pound to a penny the header tank has split. It's a very common problem on the 996 and when they replace the tank they usually fit an improved cap at the same time. All in about £200 at an indie.

bet your wrong lol

I'm not betting with you, you could fib and rob me blind

Apparently a split header is a very common fault with 996's when they get a few years old.

Went to John Mitchell. He looked a tank a hoses. It was p*ssing out in front of him as we spoke through the overflow hose. I told him what had happended. He said not a tank, more than likely the cap. He changed cap , turned the switch on above tank that clears any air blockages. Let it idle for 15 mins and all seemed ok. I drove home and not a drop has come out so all looks good.

His diagnosis was the cap was faulty causing air blocks and over flow to p*ss out . Showed me how to clear air blocks . Change cap for 01 model (15 quid) spoke to me for 30 mins about Porsches then I went. All in all cost me 15 quid . Seems fine now. :-)

Top bloke

15 quid though for cap and no other charge was great. I wonder how much the local OPC would have charged me

I've just ordered it .. God only knows what price they'll quote me (OPC rate) .. was that £15 price an indie special or an OPC price?
