There are a number of steeler cars (MK1 GT3) being offered for anywhere between £41K and £47K and they work on margins of £6K - £10K for a car like this. £36k Price seems about right for a private sale.

Whilst I agree they look for 10k on 70k cars etc, I can't see it on a car at this price point. Especially as its a bit old for an OPC now anyway.

I have to say, "never been on track", why the hell would you buy a GT3 and not take it on track???

Incase you smash it up?

I guess I just dont get why people buy track-day special cars and don't track them?

Me neither.

Thats a VERY cheap car if you ask me. Hope it's straight. If so what a bargain.

you can get insurance...

I would track it, but I see why people don't- we've all seen threads where the insurance payout is somewhat below the vehicle worth, even if you smashed it up on the way home from buying it they wouldn't give you back what you had just paid for it.

but that could be an argument NOT to drive a car at all really - as you say you can prang it driving it home...

Classic unmolested GT3 Mk1? Sounds lovely and excellent value.

An OPC inspection should verify everything.

Could make a nice road/occasional track day toy.

Appears good value...is this where the next 964RS vs GT3 price debate kicks off rolleyes

Dunno, but I'd be hard pressed to choose a 15 year old 964RS over that assuming its as good as described!

have you driven one? i suspect not

That price is gonna upset a lot of people who were trying to justify the high prices of Mk 1's a few days ago !
Mk1's will all be sub £40k soon i feel when these mid 40's price cars remain unsold this summer.

Okay let’s say it’s still available, I like it at the weekend, and everyone’s happy with the 111 I’d insist on. What world of pain can I expect if I did take the plunge?

I’ve been thinking about this all day and am actually starting to think seriously about this. I recon, not wrapping it round a tree permitting, I’d keep it for 2 years and 24k miles. My ‘gut’ feeling is I’d need to budget on £3-4k worth of running bills (warranty, service and consumables) and a depreciation hit of £6k. Anyone going to tell me I’m in lala land before I get serious.

Yes I know that it might well be gone by then, if it hasn’t already but hey, what learn now might come in useful over the next few months if another apparent bargain like this comes along, I'd only consider spending this sort of wedge on a GT3 before anyone mentions my Boxster search

.. Does this include insurance , warranty , service ,consumables and fuel? .. If so you're pushing it a little me thinks. You're probably close to that price with the middle three items.

Sorry, will edit original post, yep warranty, service and consumables. Hell I recon I'm looking at nearly £5k worth of go juice alone over the next 2 years if I'm restrained most the time cry

If you don't track the car then consumables will be similar to a standard 911 or slightly more than a Boxster. If you do use it on track then consumable use will rise significantly, tyres, brake pads, discs, petrol, suspension parts and bushes will all go through the roof. Don't ask me to put a price on it as I have lost count. But taking one on track is one hell of a thrill and it's worth every penny.

My first year of GT3 ownership cost me £300~ish on the service. Of course, there was insurance (£590~ish) and petrol (about £2000 for the 10k miles I did).

This year I will spend a bit more, as I'm putting new discs & pads in & some new suspension. Bloody good value for money motoring!
