Sorry guys, i am goign to go against the grain here. It does nothing to me, it just looks like an old Porsche in a very bad colour. How do i value it? Being brutally honest i wouldn't even want it on my drive with that colour.
no offense but who gives a f*ck about the colour? i bet its THE most sublime car to drivejonny finance said:
Never been too keen on Mr Harris' selling process in the past. Buys something to run then sells it to the reader along the lines of my current steer is totally amazing just the best thing ever made people had better wake up fast and buy as prices are rocketing and soon there wont be any about..Then about a month later offering feeble excuses how it;s going to have to be sold as the recent sharp rise in value is interfering with his owning and driving experience and he only over purchased said car because he'd always wanted one etc etc.. Can't blame him bolstering his own interests but it always came across a little obvious for me...
As for the green rep a step too far - will surely get his fingers burnt!! £60k max
I totally agree. I am a big fan of Harris and this project, so you can imagine how disappointed I was to see this latest video. The clip is just an elaborate advert...Come on Chris don't take us for Idiots. As for the green rep a step too far - will surely get his fingers burnt!! £60k max
On a different note I'm not sure I'm too keen on the car. While I can only guess that he used my car for inspiration with regards to the look, and I'm sure of the fact that the car does indeed drive superbly, I believe it is neither one thing or another.
In a few years time when it's 'famous' history has been forgotten, I think this car will be viewed as a much hacked and chopped old 911 with a lot of weird bits bolted on.
O and welshbikerduck I cant recommend these people enough

they have some great deals on at the moment.

I think you're being a touch harsh here. The guy writes (damn well IMHO) about cars for a living, what better experience to write about than your personal ownership? Meaden used to write about his 964RS, & JB his modified M3 in EVO.... does that make them marketing machines too?As for the green rep a step too far - will surely get his fingers burnt!! £60k max
if u care to read up on that cars spec before judging it as just an old green rep u will find thats it's very trick and has been built by probably the no 1 expert in this country on historic rally 911's (tuthills) with no expense spared.
i guess the downside is that it really is one mans ultimate spec old 911, but wow what spec and frankly chris knows his 911's. good luck to chris with the sale, and with DR, if i had the space for another old 911 i'd be very interested.
whoever buys it is getting a riot.

So it still hasnt come up anywhere?
Someone else has already said it but, to me, it's neither fish nor fowl. It looks like an old Porsche that's been chopped about and sprayed a vile colour. I don't care IF it does drive well I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
Don't think it's ownership/history will give it any added value in the future either.

I love the car, but it's a parts bin special.
Harris might be able to command a premium price because of who he is, but whoever buys the car will, on resale, be Johnny Nobody selling a bitsa and will get totally clobbered.
I wouldnt be so sure. You just have to look at cars like the Eagle E-Type and the various companies who update Astons and the like. They still go for big bucks and I imagine there are still quite a few people out there who would like a retro look 911 but with modern levels of grip and handling.Harris might be able to command a premium price because of who he is, but whoever buys the car will, on resale, be Johnny Nobody selling a bitsa and will get totally clobbered.
I must admit when Harris said on his Autocar video that the cost of making it was similar to that of a brand new 997 GT3 RS I thought he was a bit mad but then whats the price on exclusivity?
He obviously wont get all his money back but I wouldnt be surprised if it went for a significant sum.
Oh and I love the colour!

I think that he just gets a bit bored and sells to finance his next purchase.Perhaps the interesting bit about this particular car was seeing the project through from the start. As for the green rep a step too far - will surely get his fingers burnt!! £60k max
Some of his ideas are a bit hare-brained, but they all make good copy.
How do we think Chris's car compares to the Paul Stephens "modern classics"? They do very similar project to Chris, taking a modern galvanized car, and making it "retro", while tuning it to the customer's preference. Whilst Paul Stephens controls the used market for their cars, they appear to hold their value fairly well when they come on the market as "used" cars.

Edited to add - I think Chris's car looks pretty close to perfect in my eyes, for fast road/track use. It's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to own, but very much doubt I could afford it.

Whilst I don't know what similar cars actually sell for, I think this appears similar at £75k (to my no-911 specialist eye): http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/573988.htm
So Chris's obviously has a 3.4 engine, which I suspect is "better". Seems like a lot of money, but undeniably a very nice car.
Can't imagine it's £25k to put in a bigger, tuned engine. Anyway, that blood orange one is a much better colour but still way overpriced. Harris's is the wrong shade of green. So Chris's obviously has a 3.4 engine, which I suspect is "better". Seems like a lot of money, but undeniably a very nice car.
While I think the car looks great, light weight and good power, nice interior, something about this whole thing leaves a bad taste. If they are really trying to establish the credentials of Drivers' Republic as a serious contender, using it to flog your own motor is not the way to do it.
Covering the build, driving experience and all that - great. But using the 'mag' to sell it 5 minutes after you've finished it? Strains credibility, and that's putting it politely.
IMHO he would do better to advertise the car privately through the usual range of place, including PH, and continue to write great aricles and videos about the car itself. Has he even taken it to the 'Ring yet?
As to the value: everyone knows you don't get the money spent back. I'll be amazed if it's worth more than £45k to anyone but the man whose dream it was. For £100k you'd just buy an RS surely in that market place. Or indeed spec and build you own! As everyone who's ever done it knows, that is where the fun is anway!

You can't fault Harris for his project or slur his desire to sell [for whatever reason]. The green beast has been a great inspiration for many, and I'm sure someone out there will want the pleasure of experiencing the P&J of all Chris' efforts, knowledge, and experience. All petrolheads should/ought to have a project in their lifetime where they get to build up/modify a car using the best available components on the market. Addicts will keep doing this until they go broke/get divorced/etc. Many of you who've been down that slippery slope can tell the tale! I bet this won't be the last project of Harris, and I certainly hope it won't be either.
It's a great car and must be awesome to drive. It's not going to appeal to your average 996/997 cab driver for sure, but hardcore Porsche fanatics will love it. As for value, who knows? Be hard to sell above £50K for sure, regardless of build cost. But for anyone thinking of building a hot rod early car, it's got to be worth a look.

its a bitza for sure, and all the better for it imho. "i dont care if it does drive well". what? not that i know you or anything but im suprised to hear you say that... agreed the history will give it no additional value, save the fact that it has been specced and built by people who seem to know what the're doing. i got rid of my gt2, despite it being the most desirable car i'll probably ever own, among other reasons because the spec was all wrong for me. i am literaly slavering at the prospect of building my ultimate 993 a road legal lighter than air gt2r. Don't think it's ownership/history will give it any added value in the future either.
