My black 993 was stolen yesterday between 08:00 and 17:00 from outside my flat in Sutherland Avenue, Maida Vale.

The one thing I can't work out is how they took it away without anyone noticing, including my wife who happened to be working from home on that day.

It had a Cat 1 immobiliser and alarm, which I'd have thought would prevent anyone from breaking into it and hot-wiring it. So the only way I can see it could have been stolen was if someone had a copy of the key and immobiliser control, or if they lifted it onto a flat-bed truck and drove away with it.

I had a 993 cab stolen in Lauderdale Road in Maida Vale a few years back, within 24 hours of buying it. I had bought the car at noon and taken a flight to New York and by the time I got there the car had been stolen. I suspect it was an inside job.

Luckily I had made sure I had confirmation of comprehensive cover by fax from Norwich Union to the BA airport lounge before I took off. But when I returned I discovered to my horror my car didn't have the right alarm to be covered by the policy. Then my broker told me that NU have - or had at the time ... - an unwritten policy of allowing you 6 months to get the alarm up to spec while still being covered for theft. When he pressed NU on this they paid without any debate.

Sorry to hear of this.

It is highly likely to have been lifted by a tow-truck. In London, they're so commonly seen (trucks) that no-one would pay any attention to a car being lifted, and less so in Westminster/RBKC/Camden. Interesting that they did so in normal working hours (less obvious theft).

Good luck.

Mate, I'm really sorry to hear about the theaft of your motor. This sounds a little far fetched, however if they drive via central London they might spot your car with congestion charge cameras...

Might be worth letting local OPC'know the car details ( reg and chassis number ) incase it's still local and anybody tries to buy something for it including keys or locks.

Sorry to hear about that.

Just an idea but have you tried ringing Westminster council? My mate thought his MX-5 had been stolen but it was moved around the corner by the council as they needed the parking space empty. Is everything ok with your permit? They're very hot on this in Westminster, I used to live in St John's Wood and saw cars being towed all the time.

I know that car, it used to be parked at the top of my street.

I was going to warn him about all the 993 wing mirror thefts but I never actually saw the driver.

If they thought it was a genuine RS it would have been quite an attractive target.

Once is bad luck, twice raises questions, and 3 times is a pattern.

I had my 964 stolen from Sutherland ave 3 weeks ago,
the car was parked opps the warrington pub (but the CCTV was pointed at the ground...argghh)

I know how you feel, literally.

It sounds a bit too close, both time and location, to be a complete coincidence. So who else was there apart from you and me?

Also, did you have any work done on the car recently or did anyone have access to your keys?

Mate,
I'm still in "post car-theft shock", suffering from random acts of aggression and engaging in self harm (well, just heavy, heavy drinking on saturday night).

I spoke to another porsche owner, on warrington cres, he had his 993 stolen last year. His replacement is garaged at NPC carpark (costing him £££).

Only work done on my car has been by same guy in north-west london over the last 2 years and keys locked away at home.

Sutherland Ave gets plenty of thru traffic, they've seen one car, then they've come back for another, and I guess they'll be looking for more.

Only car I've had stolen (touchwood) was a G reg Micra I owned back when I was a student in Liverpool. Even then it felt ste, so if it were a Porsche...........
