The source for the 7:40 is the Dec '05 issue of Wheels magazine.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&am...

The Wikipedia page even attributes it Wheels Magazine.

Bugatti have never released a laptime for the 'ring, in the same way that they have never let it run on the Top Gear Lap (which is why a customer car was used for the recent test). Do you really imagine that either:

a) Bugatti ran laptimes on the 'ring, but only told an Australian car magazine. or ;

b) An Australian car magazine somehow managed to run the Veyron themselves at the ring, given that all the press roadtests were conducted in France and were supervised.....?

Guy

PS I think the Veyron would do better than 7:40, based on it's performance on the TG Track recently where it beat the CGT etc

Just because Bugatti didn't run an official times doesn't mean someone else did not. There are pictures and video of it on the ring all over the place. Clearly a Veyron has been run hard on the ring.

Wheels did not run a Veyron at the 'ring, it's as simple as that. If they had they would have published an article on it wouldn't they? Wheels don't even do their own tests on most European cars, they are allied to Autocar and reprint their articles, just look at their website.

Anyway this has now reached the state of being a pointless argument, since you clearly do not believe the obvious, in that there was no test at the 'ring or any article on a test. Unless you find proof of such a test (which you won't) I won't bother wasting anymore time on this.

I've driven the Veyron and also driven the 'ring, but sadly not at the same time, so I cannot really hazard an accurate guess myself.

That is your opinion, and its contradicted by everything one can find on the internet.

Oh Christ, well you must be right then if it's on the internet. Some people of course are actually closer to the facts than a load of people whose only source is the internet, a place which simply breeds misinformation and a lack of clarity, something the hard of understanding then perpetuate with alacrity to convince everyone they are right.

Sorry but you are utterly and completely wrong. Like I said before, provide me with proof that they tested a Veyron and I'll agree with you.

This is classic internet stuff, a magazine in Australia that have NEVER driven the car at the 'ring posted an estimate of the lap-time and suddenly this is repeated around the world as a fact.

I have test-driven the Veyron and had conversations with several people from Bugatti on several occasions, but clearly they know less about their policy of testing the car at circuits, than you.
