Visited an acid dipping place in Dudley yesterday, thought I'd share a few photo's.

356 just after being removed from the Acid tank and getting jet washed clean. Floor is non existant due to rust so a bit of work to do.

not sure which 911 this is with the oil filler on the rear wing

having been e-coat primered and ready for collection. Every minor imperfection is revealed.

possibly an SC which needs a lot of work doing, waiting for the treatment next to a 924

The rear arch looks very pronounced, doesn't it?

Was that typical on cars of that vintage?

Mate of mine had an Alfa done there. It removes every last bit of corrosion - surprisingly there was some of the original car left! Then they electrostatically coat it and as a result it draws the primer into every little nook and cranny. It's an excellent service, just a tad pricey.

I can just imagine sending an old Alfa there and after they call you up to come and collect afterwards handing over a small bag of dust hehe

Thats waht I was thinking when I saw this there, but it did look in good order considering.

And.....I dont know how much Ford Granadas fetch in Poland but this had been brought over on a purpose made box section trailer to be dipped. Had had some repair panels welded in but its obviously worth the trip and the money - or they're completely loony over there biggrin

And a few more....

A nice Mk1 Cortina

Mk1 Escort

And a big yank tank - you cant appreciate how big this thing is from the photo.

Wooo!! Thats my 924 shell ready to go! She will be transformed into my new Hillclimber/GTR rep.
Cost fo the basic dipping is about £800. and that again if you want the e-coat.

What superb photographs.
Nice looking 2002 in there as well.
The mini shell is just too far left to spot a rt hand tank.
The Mk1 is possibly a GT or Lotus, very nice.
How much does a dip cost approx?

Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic, thanks for that. Would you be able to mail me that pic. Be nice to add to the albulm.
Concerning the car, this could possibly be the most ridiculous 924 ever.
The shell is being dipped to remove all the factory galvanising, and other crud. Then fully seam welded with welded in cage to front & rear suspension points. Cut away rear boot floor and spare wheel well. Replaced with ali panel.
Engine is the stock 924 engine but ever so slightly modified. Turbo repositioned in front of engine on custom manifold, Garrett GT turbo, engine dry sumped, oil tank in passenger footwell.
Jenvey throttle bodies and custom manifold, all run by a Pectel SQ6 ECU, Omega Dash and M&W CDI Ignition. Should be good for circa 400 bhp.Variable boost levels, 8 injectors and a 944 intercooler with water spray. Steel crank, steel Arrow rods, Woosner forged pistons, heavily modified cyl head.
Suspension is 968 Chrom moly racing A arms, with JRZ suspension units.968 hubs. Rear is 944 S2 with coil overs, JRZ again. Full traction control via the Pectel ECU using the 944 & 968 pick ups.968 6 speed gearbox in rear, with Guard transmission 40/60 LSD
Body will be a mix of 924 GTR LeMans front, and GTR Grp5 rear. Basically, a pretty wide old girl. Tyres will be 10" Avon slicks up front, 12" rear on custom Image wheels.
Target weight is about 1000kgs all up, so should go quite well.
I have 95% of the mechanicals on my current racer, so it is a big swap exercise, save the wheels & tyres.
I shall also be taking this opportunity to be fitting electric power steering, probably form the Corsa, as this is a very popular addition to the modern vintage rally cars.
All work is being done by a firm called Prepfab. Check them out. Massively impressive. Richard prepares the McRaes(sp?) vintage cars.
She will take about 2 years to complete, but not an issue as i'm in South Africa for the duration.
And you can see in the pics i used my old shell for development work. Hence the unruly cables. And why a 924? It's the lightest of that families shell's, and at £500 a shell, makes much better financial sense than a 911 of the same vintage for performance.

Haha!! Thanks. Yes, I'll post up pics as & when there are developements. Prepfab will compile a full photo albulm as they go, so i'll have a record for posterity.
