yes on trying to enter a postcode for reading, i.e. RG12 6......... once I've typed in the 'R' then the 'G' isn't even an optional letter to type in, greyed out !

Greyed out means it has searched you can then type a letter or use the search result.

Does anyone know how to check the map version on PCM3.1?

My PCM has just been updated, I now have full post code search but the map still shows a local 4 round about cluster that was converted to a large single roundabout as 4 individuals.... they were done 2 years ago so this map cannot be up to date!!

Don't think you can check the map version, but the software can be done:

Info > Option > Set PCM > Display > System Version

Annoyingly there doesnt ever to be a changelog with version numbers

Somewhat pissed off that a 360 quid upgrade and a roundabout that has existed for over 2 years is reported wrong
Giving them a call to find out what is what

As I understand it, software version 2.25 is the latest for PCM3.0. Once you have updated to version 2.23, maps prior to ~MY2010 will not work. The latest map (04/2015) requires software 2.24. The 7 digit postcode capability was introduced with 2.23. 2.23 also activated both Bluetooth protocols (HFP and rSAP) on the I666 phone module.

What does the bluetooth bit mean? Does it allow you to use the PCM bluetooth to play music (like you could on the prior MY's) and can from the 981 onwards?

Unless things have changed Porsche maps only get updated every 2 years, possibly longer. The ones I had in my Cayman S were ancient, easily older than the car was. Utterly useless, but was still asked about PCM come resale.

If you have the I666 phone module, earlier versions of the software won't communicate with HFP protocol phones (like the iPhone and Androids). However, they do work with the I619 mobile phone preparation option. V2.23 added HFP to the I666 module. Previous versions of I666 only supported rSAP (Nokia, etc).

I know, it is very confusing.

In that case as i wasnt informed of this or any mention I naturally assumed I would get current maps, I will ask for a free map when the latest map is released.

The idea that latest means something different to current is misleading.

Bear in mind that there are usually two upgrades

- software that runs the SatNav
- the map data within the SatNav

they may have only updated the first.

Irrespective as i asked for nav upgrade to latest maps

If there are multiple choices they should inform you and if the latest map could be two or more years old they should tell you. I will be really pissed off if the real latest maps are launched soon.

Will there be another update for PCM maps?

Wouldn't have thought so given the new cars using Apple/Google Maps. Although guess Porsche could theoretically keep updating the maps on the older PCM's anyway

Thread revival.

I have a 2008 Gen 1 997, and this has a disc dating back to 2007. What is the difference between a 2007 and 2015 disc?

Is it just a map update i.e new roads or does it improve the sat nav logic/post code entry e.t.c?

discs just change the maps

I used this guy to update my 2008 turbo disc - about £20

Hi, sorry jumping on this thread on a slightly diff tangent. I have a 2004 Cayenne and can't find any info on using the 'bluetooth'... does anyone have any experience of setting this up? I'm not looking to spend the money to put one of those new PCCM head units in, just get the basic functions up and running on the original unit even if it's a bit limited by modern standards.

It's asking for a sim card, maybe that's a duplicate sim card for my mobile...?

Thanks in advance
James

Does PCM 2 have Bluetooth? If not, you're into wiring in adapters, including plugging into the MOST, which is a pain. And then coding the car, so it sees the phone properly. Unless you're wedded to the nostalgic, maybe replace the whole thing smile

SIM card, I don't think you can get duplicates these days, those were a 2G thing, and 4/5G doesn't support them.

It doesn't, you need an adapter like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325492730386

which uses the port for the 6cd autochanger

Got you, thanks Marcus. Don't think it has proper Bluetooth as you say and might need that MOST adapter mentioned above...

SIM wise I guess the only way to make it work then is to take your SIM out of your phone and put it in the PCM slot. Would at least stop you messing around with emails/whatsapps while driving smile

Thanks Adam, that seems to be exactly the unit if I go for one. Cheers
